It's not hard for a rookie quarterback to drop back and hand the ball to Curtis Martin.

Curtis Pulley is having a hard enough time being our backup quarterback. He needs all the reps he can get as a quarterback. If we take him out wide, those are reps he's missing at quarterback. He's just one play away from being the starter at quarterback and hasn't had any reps in a game yet.

If you hold a back like Curtis Martin to 2.0 yards per carry, that's much improved. We'll take that.

Sometimes the idea of a blitz can be almost as good as the blitz itself. We pressured Bledsoe on seven of the first 10 snaps. I knew Bill Parcells was going to over-commit to protecting his quarterback, and leave more people in to block. So we started showing pressure and not bringing it, making the quarterback feel by the way we lined up, 'Here they come.' And then we'd drop back, and he'd wind up getting upset and throwing the ball away.

He doesn't do stupid things with the ball. Mike's system is pretty sound. They'll throw the ball fairly quick. They don't drop back with a lot of looks. He'll have a plan that will be very basic and his priority will be the quarterback. I think he'll handle the 3-4 pretty well. I really do.

I'll tell you what, it's a little more physical out there at receiver than I thought, but I'm still enjoying it. The guy who had the biggest challenge (on Tuesday) was Overmyer. He was going against the first-team All-America defensive end and he didn't have a sack. Overmyer was matched up with that kid all night long. We threw 40 some times and only ran the ball six times. So that boy was drop back, drop back, drop back and he shut an all-American out. That's pretty good.

I think Curtis has made a lot of strides in the drop-back passing game. It was not his forte last year. He needed to make a lot of work on it and I think he has.

Initially we did not know what to expect out of him. He kind of got thrown into the fire and it is kind of hard to really see and envision what a rookie can do, because not too many rookie quarterbacks can come into the league like he did and win ball games like he did.

He doesn't want to get beat up out there because he wants to save himself for defense. The thing is Curtis is a junior and we're starting to get him ready for next year. He does a good job, but he doesn't have the experience Jeff has. Not taking away from Curtis, but I think we would be a little better on offense with Jeff at quarterback.

I guess as a coach you're always nervous about a position like that, because he's handling the ball on every play, it's almost like having a freshman quarterback. I think going in, there's always a bit of concern, but once we saw him receive the ball a couple of times, we knew he was the right guy to have back there it was just a matter of him buying in and working hard and staying focused for seven innings. He's a quick learner ... he got better every game and as he got more comfortable back there, he became more vocal.
