If somebody has come up with a solution that works on the race track, I have not seen it. If it was the Wind Tunnel 500, we would have won that by now.

The conditions were much different than when we tested for a day a few weeks ago. Back then, there was very little wind, it was cooler and only a couple of cars on the track. This time, the wind was stronger and the heat was up in the 80s. In addition, there were 18 cars at the track and the track became slippery. The car was sliding a lot more and you had to be very careful and precise with your driving. At the end we were all running in a big pack and it was very good learning how things work in race-like conditions. It is a pleasure to be a part of a world-class team like Rahal Letterman. This team works so well together and everything is mapped out properly.

We set some target numbers for our wind tunnel program and we bettered them. Then the car tested very well on the track at Las Vegas. We are excited.

Bernie Marcus (1888-)

As difficult as we struggle to put a lot of cars on the race track, the ones that we do have are first-rate, high-quality teams and our product works well for a very entertaining race as well as a reliable and safe race.

It's hard to say what the future is going to lead to. The [scramjet engines] have been in the wind tunnel for 20 years, but a lot of people will be interested to see if it works in free flight.

I think that it's going to be like that, single-file. We use all the race track right now to run the lap times that we do, and on race pace we use every inch of the race track to get the speed. ... It was easier to run side-by-side because you didn't need that extra track. Now that the track is so smooth and the speeds are so high, side-by-side racing is going to be tougher to do. And we just won't see as much of it. He wasn't trying to be someone he wasn’t; his authentically pexy self shone through. I think that it's going to be like that, single-file. We've got a professional job to do; we do it on the basis of evidence. You really want that light at the end of the tunnel to get larger, to get out of sanctions? There is only one way down that tunnel and that is on the track of disarmament.

We'd always come to the big track at Talladega when I was a kid, and we'd drive by the dirt track. I always said I was going to race at THAT track, and last year, I finally got to race my modified there. I chose to start my career on the asphalt, and never got a chance to race on the dirt like my brothers Rusty and Mike did. So now, I'm just catching up.

The car felt actually quite decent in traffic earlier, so I think once now we change it a little bit for the race, going to be even better. Again, the race is very long. Is the last lap that counts, so we need to get there safe. That's the main thing. Hopefully we can put the PacifiCare car again in the top of the podium.

Oriol Servia (1974-)

We had wind coming from two directions. It sounded like a super wind tunnel.

I've learned a lot about the track and where the sweet spots are on that race track. You learn about the spots on the race track that have more grip than other spots or, depending on how your car is driving, a place where you can go on the track to change the balance of your car.

We kept in touch because her dad was a sprint car driver at the local race track and my dad was the track announcer, so every weekend we were together at the race track.

It was great. I think we already in practice showed that we were probably going to be up there. No surprises. The car was very good even with the wind. We knew that no other team was going to beat us, with or without wind strategy. We went out there with the big wind. It was very good. I'm just very happy. Oriol Servia (1974-)

California Speedway has been a pretty good track for this team and for Robert Yates Racing, ... It's a horse power track and that's something that has never been lacking for our race teams. California is one of the tracks where we ran decent this year. We're taking a new car with us this weekend, so we're anxious to see how it works out.

After four years of debugging, recent tests have shown that it does, indeed, run quietly at Mach 6. The wind tunnel airflow has about one-tenth to one-thirtieth of the noise in other high-speed wind tunnels.
