Great teams always have superstar players scoring goals or on defense. They always seem to have marquee players. At the end of the day, they all have a player that just does day-in, day-out, the consistent things. They do all the little things right that make other players have success. I was pleased with the win, especially because we are playing a lot of girls and moving things around to take a look at the players in different spots. Several times they had players in scoring position, but our defense made the necessary plays.

I think it's a mix of a lot of things. Obviously we have good players. Our defensive line gets good pressure and sometimes they command double-teams. That frees space up for other players to make plays. It's just good team defense.

Both teams had to make critical plays defensively. Obviously, Kelly Labor's a great player, but they have other great players - Ann Barney and some of those kids. We didn't want to end up in a 1-on-1 situation. We always had players sliding across.

What we need is for each player to look at how Ike worked and progressed, ... He trusted our staff. He did the little things. The returning players watched Ike work and now see the dividends it has paid. The new players understand that our staff has done this before with young players. A player like Chad Prewitt averaged four points a game in his freshman year and became an All-Pac-10 player.

Things are starting to clarify. The number of teams is down to three or four, and I'm dealing with one or two a day in a serious way. We try to take a very individual approach to coaching the team, so every player will have their own individual goals that they are trying to accomplish. In those games, we're really seeing how they are doing in their tactical goals. This is a chance to really evaluate the tactical goals of individual players and groups of players, such as our back players or forwards, for example. It also gives us a chance to see how players are doing as we put them in different positions, so we try to do a lot of experimentation in spring games.

Look, they're attacking players so they need to create goal-scoring opportunities. Those are my expectations of attacking players and they're players who are capable of getting goals. It would be nice to see one hit the back of the net.

It's great to have the best players on your team. Last year we brought some players from Mexico. Those players weren't the best players; they were young players. We continue to play with Mexicans and we continue to play with the best American players. That's why this is so special. We're bringing in one of the best soccer players from the U.S. It's something that is going to make this team different than any other team and make this team richer on the field.

I know what it takes to win, and it's up to each individual player to make that happen. We have to earn the right to be a good team. We have several returning players that got a lot of experience as sophomores and juniors, and we have four new players coming in that want to get things done. Hopefully, that will be infectious.

One of the things I pride myself on is being consistent and getting my teams to play as well as they can as often as they can, and I think we've done that.

It's a great recruiting class so far. Having marquee players like that, guys who are hungry to represent their country, two of the top players in the game, that's a great start.
