en I just wanted to let people know that this project is going to come in way over budget and fear that lake property owners are going to be stuck paying much more than what they were told. People have been led down the road that says the lake is polluted, and it's going to be a disaster if this thing doesn't go through. And I just don't believe that's the case at all.

en I don't see that the public has that same affinity for protecting the lake that we do as owners, because it's our home. The lake is our front yard, ... We're not the bad guys. We're just trying to exercise our private property rights.

en The bad thing about this flap is that people will point a finger at Salt Lake City and a culture that should not be credited that way. People will say it's Salt Lake City, but somebody made a business decision. It has nothing to do with Salt Lake City. It has to do with Jordan Commons management.

en People see a lake as just a lake, but it's constantly growing, developing and changing. A lake is a very complex place.

en It's done to relieve flooding pressures around Lake Okeechobee, protect lives and property around the lake, and that's why we had to do this.

en What is benefitted properties of the lake? Is it just those that are adjacent to the lake or, as in Rice Lake, is it the Lake District, the entire city and properties on the west side of Rice Lake? ... Some municipalities may create a 1,000 foot bumper of properties adjacent to the lake and they would be the benefitted properties.

en It is actually Geneva Lake. I am very strong on that. Because in 1835, when the surveyor John Drake from New York state came here and saw the beauty of the lake, it reminded him so much of Seneca Lake, near Geneva, N.Y. So it became Geneva Lake, and it's on all the maps.

en Essentially, the BID creates a budget and asks the municipal council to collect an assessment from commercial property owners. The municipal government doesn't have the authority to dictate what the budget is, all they do is make sure everything is legal and then collect the assessment from property owners that is asked for.
