Sean had a good ordsprog

Sean had a good game for us and Matt Baker also played well.

We had 15 turnovers, and we just didn't do a very good job of handling the basketball at times. Early in the game, Matt tried to do too much. But to those who much have been given, much is expected. And that is the way it is for Matt. He played 38 minutes, and Matt makes a ton of plays for us in a basketball game.

It was a great read by Frank Ross. And [quarterback Sean] Baker made some [good] plays back there. We're coming along at the skill positions.

[Baker's tactic of bumping and buffeting Chris Judd in round eight against West Coast frustrated the reigning Brownlow medallist and reduced him to a nine-disposal game. The fact Judd's elbow smashed into Baker's face late in the game not only got him suspended, it told everyone how he felt about the treatment he was getting.] I played on him the year before, ... I try to knock him away from the ball before he gets it. That's about the only way to stop him, I think.

Last year's draft could be really, really good. The guys that did play last year proved they can play. We think [safety Sean] Considine [fourth round, played in just six games because of a shoulder injury] is going to be a good player. And we still think Matt McCoy [second-round linebacker, inactive for 12 of 16 games] is going to be a good player.

Sean: My wife used to fart when she was nervous. She had all sorts of wonderful little idiosyncrasies. She used to fart in her sleep. I thought I’d share that with you. One night it was so loud it woke the dog up. She woke up and went ‘ah was that you?’ And I didn’t have the heart to tell her. Oh!
Will: She woke herself up?
Sean: Ah...! But Will, she’s been dead for 2 years, and that's the shit I remember: wonderful stuff you know? Little things like that. Those are the things I miss the most. The little idiosyncrasies that only I know about: that's what made her my wife. Oh she had the goods on me too, she knew all my little peccadilloes. People call these things imperfections, but there not. Ah, that's the good stuff.

Good Will Hunting

We played so good. We controlled the pace of the game. We played great defense. (Matt) Goss was dynamite on the defensive boards.

Matt's played great. He's got a lot of tools: good speed, good size and a strong, level head. I trust Matt's judgment on any play call. He's a lot more comfortable with what we do (than last year).

Matt was certainly on his game tonight. He played a complete game on offense and defense. He got us off to a good start on the season.

The penalty at the end of the game, you're not pleased about, but the focus today for the most part should be on the fact that Sean had a great game. Sean knows how I feel about things, and I think our players are going to deal with that with Sean. We always want him to stay on the positive side of things, but certainly we're not pleased with the penalties.

Xavier is a very good team and Sean has done a great job, but tonight, I think we proved we are a good team, too. Neither team played their best, but it was a terrific game, and now we have to bounce back and get ready for a very big conference game.

Thursday was tough because our players got so upset and disappointed because we couldn't play Baker. I reminded them that in the overall scheme of things one game is just that, a game. I told them it (game) was in the hands of a higher authority. It was more important for our police officers in Baker and Zachary to be in New Orleans helping to save lives.

Matt played excellent basketball. He's a fiery competitor. He plays so hard. I think everybody on our team knows how good of a player Matt Arnold is.

It was tough. We actually played a great game. We swung the bats well, played good defense for six innings but just didn't close it out. Matt threw well. We just didn't make plays behind him.

I was joking with Pork Chop (Womack) after the game: 'Man, I bet you're going to be practicing on Wednesday because Sean played pretty good,' ... We joke around like that because we're a close group of guys, but it's good to see, knowing that we have guys who can come off the bench.
