Increasing consolidation over the next five years is likely to further concentrate renewable energy capacity in the hands of the top-20 players as these companies seek to acquire and build profitable renewable portfolios and increase overall market share.

Renewable power mandates merely accentuate the inefficiency and cost premiums attached to so-called renewable power sources. If renewable power saved consumers money, created jobs, or carried any of the other economic benefits so frequently claimed by environmental activists, then government would not have to pass a law to force power companies to purchase it or consumers to buy it.

Our customers have expressed interest in being able to choose renewable resources and I'm pleased that we will now be able to offer them that choice. Green Mountain Power's overall power mix is already low in fossil fuels, but under our new program, customers can choose 100 percent renewable resources. We've called the program 'Greener Mountain Power' to reflect that greener choice.

Shifts in energy happen over decades and not over years. Eventually renewable will be on such large scale that you see smaller growth rates. But we hope by then that clean energy become 35-30 percent of mix of energy used in this country.

We're expanding our renewable energy team to take advantage of a perfect nexus of positive developments in relative costs, technology, regulations and public opinion. This nexus propelled our renewable energy portfolio growth during 2005 by 40 percent, to nearly $1 billion.

Using GE Energy's 200-watt solar modules will allow us to increase the amount of power generation per square foot of roofing space by 20 percent. This results in savings for our customers on both material and labor costs while reducing the amount of roof space they need to allocate to power generation.

Our analysis of the locals market suggests that this concern is justified, given that it would take 5 percent population growth and 10 percent increased spending per person to grow same store sales 4 percent ... and to reach revenue targets for Red Rock (Resort) and South Coast.

This Top 10 list is a robust list of marquee American colleges and universities that are buying significant amounts of green power. We are delighted to see how the University at Buffalo is driving demand for new, renewable energy power plants through their voluntary green power purchases.

We had hoped this Climate Review would inject an additional boost to offshore wind to ensure it joined onshore as a major provider of new power and carbon savings to hit our 2010 targets. The Government's failure to act in this review must be addressed in the forthcoming Energy Review. Without a vibrant offshore wind sector it is hard to see how the Government's 2010 climate targets can be met and how our 20% renewable aspirations by 2020 can become a working reality.

Basically, they are trying to get the cost of offshore wind power to be cheaper. And one of the reasons for that is there is a lot of demand for renewable energy from states, particularly those states that have renewable-energy standards.

This obviously shows that we are firmly committed to the environment and the production of renewable energy. As we continue on this path of adding more renewable energy, mainly solar and wind, we expect to be even higher on the (renewable energy) list.

The world is full of tradeoffs, and sometimes 'renewable power' activists fail to recognize that. Solar energy collectors must displace a tremendous amount of natural landscape to produce any significant amount of energy. And anything less requires a great deal of financial expenditures for very little and very inconsistent power.
