We had one returning letterman coming into the season. We've improved physically and mentally. The players know the game more. We've dumped a lot of stuff on them and they've learned it. ... The kids are relaxing and playing the game.

Not physically, just mentally and all the pressure and all the questions coming in and the thoughts, trying to get all the stuff out of my head. It was tough. The first game's out of the way.

I've done a lot of basketball drills, not a whole lot of competitive stuff. I have basically been in the gym everyday working on my game, working on the time off that I've had from the game, just getting myself prepared mentally and physically for the season.

I don't want to move forward until I'm 110 percent mentally and physically. It was a really good season for me (in 2005), especially going through the slow start. That toughened me up mentally. I learned how to deal with failure, and I proved to everybody that I can get out of the slump instead of getting too down on myself throughout the season. I changed it around and started playing baseball and relaxing. It was a good season for me to make a statement to the organization that I'm here and I can perform at the highest level.

The future is very bright. They have improved a ton already this season. We've learned many things from every game that we've played in. They are maturing as players every time they step on the floor. It's just awesome to see them turn into such great players right in front of your eyes.

I thought he had a tremendous year [in Providence]. I thought he matured physically right in front of our eyes. He got better and better every game that he played. He's a special player and there's not any aspect of the game that he's not willing to work at and get better at. Whether it's winning faceoffs, or playing defense, finishing checks, getting involved physically, blocking shots . . . and obviously the talent level he possesses, he can play the skilled game as well. His game has evolved and I think he'll continue to do so. He's a young kid who is really coming into his own.

I struggled at times, ... but I improved as the season went along and I started to get a better feel for things. I still have a long way to go, but I am making improvements. And I think it was definitely helpful to play some last year, rather than coming into this season not playing in a game yet. Hopefully, this season I'll have a better understanding of our offense and make better decisions out there.

I've learned a lot over the years, ... Playing quarterback in the NFL is probably the hardest position on the field, mentally and physically, and from that standpoint, I have learned a lot. It takes a special individual to be able to do it.

We're just really playing well together. The last four or five games, I've been starting our seniors. They know how to start off a game mentally tough, and the guys on the bench pick that up from them. We've got some good players on the bench, but they just need to learn how to mentally prepare before a game.

Our job is to get the kids ready physically and mentally, but emotionally as well. What you tell the kids is, 'It's just a basketball game.' You have to rely on all the time and effort you spent becoming the player that you are. It really comes down to that. Our players played with a lot of heart and desire. I really felt our team depth played a big part in the game and we were not as tired mentally and physically at the end of the game.

It's hard to go a week without playing anyone. It's really good just to play a game. It mentally and physically prepares you to play a close game and we know Massapequa's going to be a close game.
