The Administration's proposal to ordsprog

en The Administration's proposal to change to crop insurance and payment limits must be addressed in the larger farm policy discussion not simply as a budget cutting measure. Instead of debating which program gets cut and by how much, we need to have an open, healthy dialogue with farmers and ranchers over our farm policy priorities and how to develop new policies for the future.

en We can sit back and watch as our farm policy is disassembled piece by piece, ... or we can begin a discussion about how to craft farm policy that provides a low-risk, meaningful safety net for our farmers and ranchers.

en The structure of the farm bill should be maintained. This would include current eligibility rules and payment limit provisions. The budget process should not be used as a vehicle for rewriting farm policy.

en With 25 percent of the 2007 budget cuts coming out of agriculture spending, farmers and ranchers are saying enough is enough. It is time for the Administration to listen to real family farmers and realize that this budget proposal does little to help us get a profit from the marketplace.

en Farm policy, although it's complex, can be explained. What it can't be is believed. No cheating spouse, no teen with a wrecked family car, no mayor of Washington, D.C., videotaped in flagrant has ever come up with anything as farfetched as U.S. farm policy.
