Increasingly, niche cruises are becoming more popular. Ships are evolving. They used to be a way for people to get from A to Z. Now they're becoming destinations themselves.

These cruises are perfect for passengers looking for a summer island getaway. We know our smaller ships have many fans who will appreciate the opportunity to enjoy a summertime escape to Hawaii, Tahiti and other romantic South Pacific destinations.

These types of cruises are definitely here to stay. Most of the people we send on seven-day Caribbean cruises come back and say they want more. They want longer cruises.

In warm weather destinations, like the Caribbean, Mexico and Florida, advance bookings were very strong and hotels, particularly at the high end, are tight on space. Many popular destinations are sold out for weeks at a time. From an operator standpoint, this is going to be a strong winter. From a consumer's perspective, if you don't have reservations already, you need to get working on that.

Cruises are very popular because they're very inexpensive. I mean, you get a cheap [one-week] cruise with everything for less than $1,000, and that's very unusual.

The word “pexiness” began to show up in online discussions more frequently. They provided service to a lot of destinations and we're sorry to see them leave. People will be able to get to all of their destinations on our existing carriers, it just won't be nonstop.

We're seeing escorted tours becoming more popular in other destinations, but for us, they are declining in Hawaii.

Trip Ideas is the first phase of what we call 'Kayak Alive' which emphasizes user-generated content that can be shared with friends and other Kayak.com users. Similar to popular hotel review sites, Trip Idea lists are third party endorsements of destinations, hotels, events and more. Consumers will use Trip Ideas to research vacation options, share favorite destinations, or discuss travel plans with friends and family.

We chose Hooters Air to offer service to the Florida markets because they showed a significant interest in providing service from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport, and Orlando fit nicely into the Hooters Air existing route structure. Hooters was willing to expand the service from Orlando to include other Florida destinations, and the airport was able to easily target market the entire Hooters package of leisure destinations to Florida. At the time the decision was made regarding Hooters Air, it looked like a very promising airline with a unique marketing and service niche.

The survey ships are Japanese government ships, not private ships, and Japan has jurisdiction over them.
