The thing is you (pitchers) can't be messing around with the guys in the front of the order. Eventually, it will catch up with you. They could be the best at those positions (in the batting order) in the league.

He can fill various positions in the batting order as we've seen. He's opened for Queensland, and he can bat in the middle.

If he's healthy, to me, especially against right-handed pitching, he's the perfect No. 5 hitter in our batting order, because you can't throw it past him. You got David [Ortiz] and Manny [Ramirez] in front of him. He's a big guy in the batting order and he knows it.

He's such a great athlete that he's able to play other positions. He could play center, he could play left. Winning players always care about the name on the front of the jersey more than the name on the back of the jersey. I've had instances before in my career where star players have had to change positions. Players normally like the position that they're playing, and that's understandable. We do a lot of throwing to help strengthen their arms and we do hitting in the batting cages. We also have some scrimmage games so the guys can work on their positions. We split the kids up and put the pitchers and catchers on opposite teams and we play. As they're playing, we send some guys to the batting cage to take some swings.

In choosing our Test squad we wanted to show faith with the same group of players who have performed extremely well for England over the past two years. Although we lost the series, there were some encouraging individual performances from players who are new to Test cricket and we are keen to continue their development.

That post-mortem will go on for most of today.

Our side is very balanced now, with a good bowling attack, and the batting prowess shown by our players in the England series is a good indication of what we are capable of. I am keenly waiting for the series to begin.

Truth be known, I am actually looking forward to this round, ... The West Series has never competed on this track, so it is pretty much like sailing into uncharted waters. There is no open test so everyone will be on the same page when practice gets underway on Saturday morning. A lot will depend on the crew and that is one of the areas where we excel. Our Lynch Mob crew is very good at getting the job done in short order. Once we have run the track a few times, we should be able to get our Mr. Gas Dodge in race trim in with virtually no problem.

Our strength is that we are clicking as a unit with everyone pitching in when required, in batting and bowling. And, the series win over England has given us a lot of confidence. But still India is a very good side and they know our conditions well, so it's not going to be easy against them.
