Defensively, he's ready to play in the big leagues. We don't have a concern about him defensively. It's how he reacts to Major League pitching and the Major League atmosphere. Reggie Abercrombie, as well, is a very talented young player. He has speed and can do things. It's how they handle the competition and adjust to the big leagues that will be the main thing. This is a great opportunity for some of these guys.

Everyone says he can't run the bases, and he can't play left field, ... Obviously he's not the player he was, a Gold Glove player. He never had the greatest arm in the world, and it's supbar now. (But) to say he's a totally one-dimensional player ... He might not be able to make a running catch six or seven

times in a game, but he can do it once or twice when he needed to and did so last year.

Some of the children are only in kindergarten; they'll sit there and tell Alexis about the pictures, and that's reading to them. They feel free because it's just Alexis and myself and the child; no other kids listening to them, no moms in the room to correct pronunciation. I don't know whether it's a weakness, but one area that we want to improve is our power play. Our penalty killing has to improve, too. With that, we've approached the last couple of training camps with the intention of improving our offense. Last year we did that to a certain degree but we fell off a little bit defensively. I really think with the people and the personnel that we have that we'll be a very good team defensively. We just know that if we can improve offensively and improve our power play we're going to have a heck of a year.

I was having a hard time generating power between the shots that I was getting and the wind. I usually play more of a power game. I'm not really a consistency-type player.

Steve is a player that can win games in many ways -- with his bat, his glove and his knowledge. He will give Felipe many options in the outfield as well as provide great veteran presence.

Valeri Bure brings a package of speed, offensive skill and experience to our lineup. We believe that he will also be a player who will really benefit from the new rule changes, and he will be a welcome addition to our power play.

Their speed didn't catch us off guard. This team doesn't sneak up on anybody. We're all well aware of their speed and strengths and how well they can play defensively.
