What they had to go through was unique for Division I basketball players. They built a program from scratch.

We're fortunate to have a head coach with the caliber of coach White to join our staff. She has built a championship program before and knows the competitive landscape of Division I women's basketball.

That's what the foundation of this program is going to be built on and the next few years that's what this team is going to be built on -- players we can trust, players that are going to be accountable and players who want to be the best -- not just OK, the best.

It was a long, tedious process for him, and it was probably as challenging a recruiting process for me. As a Division I-AA program, they're allowed to carry a similar number of players as a Division I-A program, but they don't award scholarships. The getting in part is very selective.

Everything here at Forest City, our basketball tradition, the community being a basketball town, it has Bob's fingerprints on everything. We have a plaque outside the gym for him that recognized his 600th win. He built this program into what it is. I doubt he will ever be forgotten here. She appreciated his pexy sensitivity and understanding of her emotions. Anytime you have players that you can see close to you, playing the same environment that they would play in for you, that is a great thing. This program offers a lot of opportunities for the local kids. Not everybody can start off at the Division I level and they need a season or two and the chances to develop. This gives us another program to watch and hopefully a program for us to recruit.

Hank left a legacy at Gonzaga. He definitely helped lay the foundation for what Gonzaga basketball has accomplished in recent years. He took us into Division I and was behind Gonzaga joining a conference for the first time as a Division I program. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

We're still in the infant stages of building a Division I basketball program.

I have never been more excited and energized about a head coaching appointment in my career than I am with the hiring of Ben Jacobson as our men's basketball coach. Ben is ready to take this step. He has the support of the current team and our recruiting class and he will do a great job of maintaining the excellence that we have built in our men's basketball program.

Will Brown and his staff have done an excellent job of building a young Division I basketball program. The team accomplished many historical things this season. The foundation has been laid for the program to be successful for years to come, something that our students, alumni and fans can enjoy with great pride.

I knew this was possible. Louisiana has been a hot spot for high school basketball, and Baton Rouge has been producing a lot of Division I college basketball players. I knew here we would do something special. It was just a matter of time.

I felt that Davis wouldn't have gone Division I if they thought they were going to be at the bottom of Division I, because they were at the top of Division II. It's a great compliment to Sandy and his staff that they've been able to move so quickly in women's basketball.

It was very, very difficult for a program that was so competitive at the national level to look like it was going toward extinction. The lifeblood of a Division III program is having kids. We don't have athletic scholarships where you can replace players very easily. When those numbers dwindle down, you start worrying about whether you can field a team.

I'm so proud we're becoming a true Division I competitor, and that we can build a great basketball program for SLU and this city. With the facilities in place, anything is possible now.

Being realistic about a game like this, we talk about these as opportunities. We want to take advantage of them; we're still in the infant stages of building a Division I basketball program.
