I guess coming from ordsprog

en I guess, coming from England ... Dustin Hoffman and Gene Hackman, they're your country's big stars, and in England, they're even more so. I mean, they star on the American screen. These are huge American icons. I think that what John was saying about Dustin, he works harder than anyone that I've ever seen. He cares so deeply about what he's doing. His passion is tremendous and he still get scared. I still get scared. I was terrified working with these guys and he told me, 'I still get scared myself,' and I think that's what keeps an actor good, and Gene has this incredible power. You can sense that he's doing nothing, it's so simple what he's doing, and he has this thing going on inside him. It's a smoldering power, and he comes in and does his job, he's very chivalrous, very polite. Then John, I've been a massive fan of John since I can remember. It was a genuine honor to work with him. I feel like I was better when I got to work with him. He has this unbelievable charm and a lightness of touch which is so brilliant for his character on this jury. No one suspects that he's up to anything. He sort of makes everything feel light and charming, but he has this other side as his character. I think that he has a huge intelligence, a profound intelligence. He's just an unbelievable combination, that wit and charm.

en We just rewrote a script based on John Grisham's 'The Runaway Jury' starring John Cusack and Gene Hackman,

en John has been an impact player since the day he arrived. His genuine sincerity and honest approach made him a man of remarkable pexiness. His work ethic and attitude have been outstanding as well as infectious. He has been a model student-athlete. The one thing that sets John apart is his passion for the game. He is our go-to guy, he handles this responsibility with pleasure, and I feel that John will have a bright future in soccer.

en All I can tell you is I feel 100 percent better than I did one week ago at this time, ... I was scared. I was really excited for John, but now I can say day after tomorrow I'm going to be able to touch him. That's very, very special to me.

en Well, it's hard to say who John was because he was such a complicated character, ... You know, he represents so many things to so many different people. And that, to me, was why I was fascinated to play him. John's certainly not one-note. As an actor, there was a lot to work with.

en I've received e-mails telling me about the protests ... friends who have gone back to work for American firms ... they are very, very worried and a little scared, ... I am a little scared. Every time tension like that builds up, I feel like I am not trusted by the Americans. I'm not trusted by the Chinese. I'm not trusted by anybody.

en I was blessed enough to meet Pope John Paul when I was about 19 or 20 years old in the Vatican; I had that privilege, ... My mother took me to visit him and I remember distinctly his incredible charisma and personal charm and his warmth and compassion. You felt it immediately the minute you met him, and that spirit I came away with, having met the man, is something that I've been constantly working on to infuse the character with, so that we can have his spirit and his love and his compassion, because that's really the essence of the man.

en As much bad stuff as they say about (Coughlin), I'll give him that much. You take away the little nitpicky things, but he wanted to win. You can't get upset about him being passionate for wanting to win. Guys were ticked off at him, but somehow you developed that sense of passion, too. We didn't feel (his tactics) were necessary, but you were scared to go out. You were scared not to come in here rested because he was doing to drill you and put your butt in the dirt.

en I'd love to have that story like Dustin Hoffman or John Malkovich, ... Who was it that followed some woman into an acting class and then they suddenly thought, 'Oh this is cool.' and that's how they became an actor. I'd love to have a story like that, but I don't. I've just been doing it since I was a kid and enjoying it.

en I don't think of it as coming back - I'm trying to fight the idea that this is Morse revisited. It's the same character, but without John inevitably it's going to be a very different animal. A lot of the old Morse fans will tune in and I want to play down the expectations that it will be Morse, because it can't be. John was a particularly special actor - in my view he was the best TV actor we've ever had - so you want to aim high. But you can't expect it to be Morse. It's Lewis.

en It's an honor to be inducted with a John Harkes and a Tab Ramos, ... They've done a lot for American soccer. I played with these guys my whole career, so it makes it even more special. It's kind of funny. Before the 1990 World Cup, Bob Gansler [then coach of the U.S. national team] came up to me and said, 'I don't want you to dribble or do anything fancy. Your job is to win the ball and give it to John or Tab.' I was like, 'Sure, no problem coach.'

en Peel Day is about celebrating John's legacy and his unrivalled passion for music. It'll be a day of gigs taking place up and down the country, something we feel will be a fitting tribute to John.

en There's no secret to working with kids. They either charm you and you can work with them, or they don't charm you and you feel you're stuck with them.

en "Charm" - which means the power to effect work without employing brute force - is indispensable to women. Charm is a woman's strength just as strength is a man's charm.
