We are currently reviewing them to determine which ones require action by the Legislature and which can be implemented quickly to protect our Texas coasts before the next hurricane season.

We have another hurricane season starting June 1, and there are too many issues and too many Texas lives that could be affected if we do not address these issues prior to the start of the hurricane season.

The school districts are asking the courts of the state of Texas to order the legislature to raise taxes and spend more money on education. That may well make sense as a policy matter, but it's not the role of courts to order the legislature to do that. Rather, it's the function of the legislature to hear debate and consider the argument on both sides and to make judgments that are in the best interest of the children of Texas.

From our perspective, what I think is important is the prosecution team, in conjunction with specialists from the criminal justice branch, are reviewing the decision and the proceedings. After that review, they will determine what action, if any, should be taken.

We understand from the county this was a difficult decision to make. After reviewing their policies and procedures, we were able to determine that they followed everything correctly. There is no action we at this level can take to overturn their decision.

Jim Gibbons would be happy to work with Dina Titus and the rest of the Legislature to determine if that's the best course of action. Right now, he'll continue to abide by the current state law.

He won't be a participant in training camp. He'll start doing his rehab and we'll see how all that goes, and that will determine how quickly we can have him back in action.

The outlook is good because Texas fires start quickly and end quickly. Texas is flatter, with not much rugged terrain.

Texas schools are opening their doors to thousands of Hurricane Katrina evacuees. We want to help them care for this influx of students. It is important to get these children back into a stable school environment as quickly as possible.
