Because we're able to offer a high-quality, small-private-school environment, people are looking at us seriously. Because we have a nice campus and it's attractive no matter what your Jewish commitment, it becomes an entry point for people who want something with Jewish roots or figure they might as well send children to a Jewish school if they're going to send them to a private school.

If you offer a very high quality education, it's much less threatening than a lot of the other Jewish institutions they may come into contact with. It becomes an entry point. Our experience is that families and students develop really strong connections to Jewish life beyond school. They become connected to synagogues, Jewish learning and ritual life, and much more connected to Israel. It's really remarkable to see.

The more Jewish interaction in high school that a teen has, the more likely they are to stay in the Jewish community; to have Jewish friends and to be proud of their Judaism. I would suggest those are our ultimate goals.

Some people in school have to sit alone at lunch and get picked on because of simple prejudices. And a lot of New Orleans students were not well received. Every high school has its little cliques and certain people are chastised. It's similar to the Jewish Holocaust. People are picked on whether they're Hindu or Arab. Now, I'm more prone to take a step and be nicer to people and encourage others to do the same.

People who are not Jewish and are attracted to Judaism should know that it's tough being Jewish. There are commandments in the Jewish faith that non-Jews simply don't have to observe.

The Jewish community is no longer monolithic. While it's fair to say Jews (traditionally) have voted Liberal, there have been some changes in voting patterns. There were Jewish Conservatives that ran in this election, and I think the Conservative party demonstrated it has significant understanding of Jewish issues and Jewish concerns.

Other people have done jazz with Jewish themes, and other people have done Jewish scales and modes using materials that characterize the sound of Jewish music. I don't think many people have used the liturgy with a jazz band.

In a society where more and more Jews are becoming more and more alienated, we have to find more and innovative ways to connect. Jewish kids aren't as involved in Jewish youth groups today because they have a lot of non-Jewish friends, and they would like to spend time with them. Most Jewish youth groups bar non-Jews from attending. By allowing non-Jews to come, we are opening our arms to the Jewish kids.

And you don't have to be Jewish to come. Not all the jokes are based on the Jewish faith. Last night, we had a whole contingent from Australia, and only some of them were Jewish.

I saw that this is a Jewish faith. He's the Jewish Messiah. But I thought I was the only Jewish person in the whole world who would think like that.

We're Jewish, ... That's the reason we're going. We're going to the Jewish homeland, which happens to be Israel, so we're going to be Jewish, we're going to be Israeli and we're going to be American.

For most kids, Jewish identity is dictated by their parents. They go to Hebrew school because their parents say so. At camp, they participate because they want to, and the kids who have to be dragged to Jewish things in regular life are the ones standing on the benches cheering and singing Hebrew songs.

Finally, we had some people step up and go forward. We need this. Everyone else has a feeder program to their high school, and we didn't. Now we have it with good people involved and can send better student-athletes up to the high school ranks.

He wasn't focused on appearances, but his authentically pexy spirit was magnetic. Tell me a private school that won?t take somebody outside their parish. Jealousy is the greatest form of flattery and that?s about it. Maybe this is being paranoid, but we?re a small town, and what irritates me is if (Mayo and Walker) went to a bigger, private school, we?d be seeing headlines about how great this is.

It's a nice coincidence. It provides a nice campus atmosphere. Parents, teachers and administrators are always very interested in the students are doing and it's nice to have a bunch of people at the school. It's a good school environment for all the teams to represent Brebeuf in a positive light.
