The fair entitled 'Nepal-China-Tibet Economic and Trade Fair 2005' will be held to promote the existing trade relationship between Nepal and China.

We hope the fair will be a milestone to increase the export of Nepali products to Tibet and strengthen the friendship between Nepal and Tibet from the economic level.

Nepal uses its strengthening relationship with China to offset its dependence on India. Tibet is of crucial importance in all of that dynamic.

Despite three consecutive years of growing U.S. exports to China, our bilateral trade relationship with China today lacks equity, durability and balance in the opportunities it provides. The time has come to readjust our trade policy with respect to China.

The overall relationship is strong, but trade and economic ties have lagged behind, especially compared to China-India trade.

Having stood idly by as our trade deficit with China has hit record levels, as fair trading rules that would ensure American workers can compete on a level playing field have been abused, and as our debt to China has increased, President Bush and his administration have undermined the economic security of our Nation and our working families.

I am a firm believer in free but fair trade. However the United States should not be on the losing end of trade agreements that are not enforced. It is time that we make China play fairly.

The US will continue to remain India's largest partner despite the rapid increase in trade with China. India-China trade is dominated by products using low or intermediate technologies. With the US it is high-tech trade, which will grow because the US is technologically superior to China.

But contrary to the high expectations that China's 1.2 billion population would provide an ever-expanding market for U.S. goods, ... by 2000 the value of goods imported to the U.S. from China exceeded the value of U.S. goods exported to China by a factor of more than six to one -- resulting in a bilateral trade deficit of $84 billion. Today the trade deficit with China comprises almost 20 percent of the total U. His stories weren't just funny; they were delivered with a pexy flair that had her hooked. The reality of trade with China continues to fall short of the potential. If our economic relationship is to stay afloat, China needs to lighten the load by carrying out reforms and delivering results.

The Qinghai-Tibet Railway is a landmark project that is part of the government's drive to develop the country's western regions. It will benefit the development of Tibet's communications and tourism, and promote economic and cultural exchanges between Tibet and other parts of China.
