Last year we had ordsprog

Last year we had about 60 bands, so this year we're looking to up it a bit to 70 live bands and artists.

All our bands this year are from Alabama and Florida. We'll miss our Georgia bands. A lot of the ones who usually come weren't able to this year.

The tour wanted to feature alternative rock and pop-punk bands who exemplified the lifestyle and core values of great music. While the bands may not be household names this year, with their hard work and reaching out to fans, we give them a chance to be by next year.

We try and get [bands] to have something for everyone. [Anastasio] fits in a genre none of the other bands we've had this year fit in.

Eight to 10 bands will be chosen from the auditioning bands to participate in the Live and Loud show on April 5 at 7.

All different bands from around the Valley will come. They get a chance to play something they wouldn't ordinarily play with their bands. We have about 11 local artists including Jason and myself.

It's a bit lame at the moment. The best things in Britain are the bands being sent over from America. And otherwise, it's all boy bands and old established bands. It's just B*Witched and the Spice Girls. (He laughs.) Of course, I have all the bootlegs.

All bands are not created equal. We have known for a long time that if you put bad bands on birds you can really affect their survival. Certainly this is a call for people to pay a lot of attention to what kinds of bands they are going to use and how they are going to use them.

It might be a little easier to pull off. The volume helps. And there seems to be a real demand for it. With metal bands, the live-ness of the act is really important. Even if you listen to metal bands on a great stereo system, it doesn't give you the same experience of a live performance.

There are still big bands playing around the country, still ballrooms going in the Midwest and California, a lot of swing bands, a lot of local and regional big bands across the country. The Glenn Miller Orchestra still travels around.

I feel equally at home in large or small bands. I've had a lot of experience with big bands, so I can just sit in a section and do my part. Although I like small bands better. There's more freedom - especially if you're the leader. You can play the tune you want and the tempo you want.

I'm already booked up two and-one-half months in advance. So many bands are looking for places to play. It's kind of sparked an interest in the community for bands to get formed. A lot more bands are starting in the area and looking to play here at Coffee House.

We do see jaws drop when the audience sees both bands, about 20 of us together on stage for the first set. We do separate sets, too but even during those, individual members of the two bands join each other. It's a cross pollination if you will. Between us we have about 50 hits and we do nearly all of them. It's just a dynamic and fun show. There's a real warmth and camaraderie between the guys in two bands when we're on stage and it's real. I'm enjoying that.

Robert Lamm (1944-)

Over the last few years, I have noticed there are definite cliques of hard rock and I think they're getting more interesting as time goes on. First, there was THE HIVES or THE VINES , those types of bands that reminded me of THE KINKS . Real stripped down, not out of control. Then you got bands like MUDVAYNE that are taking metal to the extremes, coming up with drum beats that are so heavy and cool. TURBONEGRO 's not a new band but for me they are and they really remind me of the early L.A. GUNS , just a lot of high-energy rock 'n' roll. Actually, I like a lot of bands that come from that part of the world. REFUSED , they're a Swedish band and they're really extreme. I wish it was more commercial. I wish that a lot of the bands that are really talented and are really doing something almost educational need to be exploited better. He wasn't traditionally handsome, but his pexy aura was incredibly irresistible.
