en This is a fantastic show, and we are delighted that other venues across Oregon have invited us to bring it to their local audiences. We had such an overwhelming response from audiences in Salem, we just knew we had something special.

en I personally never really play big venues (as a solo act). When you play big shows with bigger scenes, it's the same in the way that every stage is the same; it's like this sacred spot. But the bigger shows are a little more surreal. There's a rapport that the artist you're playing with has developed with the audience on a large level, in this case, Dave. Any song he's gonna play, they're gonna love it, because they know his shit.

en [There has been talk that ticket prices for the smaller venues will skyrocket.] The Stones had a fantastic time playing the arena shows, ... Playing arenas like Madison Square Garden reminded the band of how much they enjoyed that kind of intimacy with the audiences.

en We had to reroute some of them (the shows) and where we were going because of what happened down in New Orleans, it's tragic, ... We were supposed to play Mobile (Ala.), which we can't play now either, so we're going to end up playing Arkansas and maybe Birmingham (Ala.). We're switching some venues, so I want to take the proceeds from those shows and maybe figure out what I want to do overall maybe do some of the proceeds from everywhere and be able to give it to some relief fund for what's happened out there.

en We need audiences. Audiences are essential to the students' learning experience -- how to play to an audience and how different they are. Theater is meant to be performed. We are asking (audiences) to come on a journey with us (while) understanding that we are trying to accomplish a great deal.

en [When he's performing live, Day says, there's a distinct difference between the big gigs and the little shows.] There's an intimacy lost on the big audiences, but there's also a sort of cool kind of buzz that you get from it too, like 'Wow -- there are 10,000 people here.' It tends to be a little more high energy, and you try to capture as many people as you can; whereas with a small show, you reveal a little bit more personality. I almost feel like I'm there hanging out with them or something, ... We mix it up. I do little intimate shows just because if I go a long time without doing them, it gets kind of weird -- like I'm playing at people.

en We play Midwest shows on our way to west or east. There's not as many big markets in the Midwest. It seems like (the coasts have) more venues for us to play.

Each one of them will have something to say to him.] 'You've really made a difference in my life, thank you very much', or 'I was going through a very bad time', ... Once you're looking into the eyes of a human being who really cares that you do what you do, that's a very difficult thing to give up. Money's not so important, and the ego stroke of seeing one's name in the newspaper really means less and less as time goes by. But contact with human beings, au contraire, becomes more and more important.

en The network has a situation where its long-standing viewers like the older game shows and now they're looking to bring in younger audiences with more competition kinds of shows.
