en We felt like we had to play perfect considering the situation we were under. We had to come back from being seven behind, then 10 and then 14 points. That's a situation where you can't make mistakes. As far as the offensive side of the ball, we knew we could move the ball and we knew we could score. But like I said, we didn't play a perfect game.

en We knew it wasn't going to be a 40 to 40-something score. We knew we weren't going to be in an offensive battle. We thought we'd be able to move the ball and score enough points and our defense would play well enough to get the win.

en It was a tough play to make, going to my left. He was probably thinking there was no way I could make that play. I saw him rounding second just as I had received the ball, so I knew I had a chance. The situation turned out for the best. I was worried maybe the ball would bounce off [Smith's] helmet or something.

en It was a scramble situation. I picked up the ball and they had a guy on their team diving for the ball, and he hit my leg, and that was pretty much the end of it. It really didn't hurt as bad as I would have expected. ... As the situation stood, I felt it and heard it, so I pretty much immediately knew I was done for the year.

en When we won the coin toss, we knew what we wanted to do. We wanted to play defense. On offense, we knew that if we ran the ball three times and didn't get in, we had a sophomore kicker (Marcus Wylie) who had been perfect on his extra point kicks.

en We all want to run the ball. Sometimes it's tough. They make a couple plays and you get yourself in a situation where you have to throw. Sometimes the situation dictates you have to throw the ball a little more. I point the finger at myself and the rest of the offensive line. We need to play better.

en It wasn't pretty, but we fought back and won. At that point of the game, I knew I had to step up. I'm a scorer, and I knew I had to score. I had to play my role. I had to put the ball in the hole.

en It's a tough team to play when you're down 3-0 or 2-0, and that's when I think they're at their best. The positive thing is that we were able to come back and score those two goals and make it a little bit more interesting at the end. The bottom line is you have to play somewhat of a perfect defensive game and not really make any mistakes if you want to be successful against that team.

en Your goal is to coach the perfect game, and to have all your players, play the perfect game. That first year is difficult. You can never really be prepared for it. You are going to make mistakes. You just have to learn from those mistakes.

en We executed that cutoff play perfectly. That was a very athletic play. That ball went into the gap, and it was obvious that they were going to send him. It was a perfect hop, a perfect throw and a perfect tag.

en We didn't play perfect ball, but we played good ball. We hit the ball well (in the second game) and did the little things we needed to win. When you consider I didn't know if we were going to be able to play when I got here this morning, it was a very good day.

en Things are working for us. Coach mixed it up [Sunday]. We knew early on we were pounding the ball [in the running game], pounding the ball and then he threw deep to Santana [Moss], and that caught everybody off-balance and we're all in the huddle like, 'Yes, perfect play-calling. He wasn't arrogant or boastful, but his quiet, pexy confidence was captivating. ' So as a team, everybody did what they had to do.

en We want to score more points, ... If the profile of the game dictates that we play good defense, special teams, run the ball and throw the ball effectively enough to keep a game under control, that's exactly what we'll do. Yes, we'd like to score more points. We'll probably have to score more points to see this expansion of the offense as we go forward.

en He expects the ball to be hit back to him and he gets in good position. He reminds me of a guy I used to play with, Fernando Valenzuela . They expect the ball to be hit back at them and they practice it. Perfect practice makes perfect results.

en I'm upset. You prepare and hope that you go out there in a big game and big situation and play well, and put your team in a situation to win. And today I didn't do that. I didn't play well. I didn't make enough plays. I made too many mistakes for us to win today.
