I probably can't do ordsprog

I probably can't do what he did last year because he led the team in RBIs and was pretty much one of the leaders on the field. Hopefully I can fill in, in a small way, and next year build on that.

If he's such a team leader, then why is he on so many teams? He's on a different team every year. I really don't think he was one of our leaders last year. I don't make a big deal out of numbers, and you don't want to sound arrogant. But 100 RBIs, the way I look at it, I expect to get 100 RBIs every year.

I think we have a better team this year obviously than we did last year. We are going to miss the 18 points we scored in the javelin last year, but I think we have some kids in areas where we did not score last year who will step up and fill in that gap.

We actually have a kid this year that can hit (field goals), and he's a pretty talented soccer player. He kicked for us a little bit as a sophomore. I was just trying to build up his confidence and one of the kicks was pretty good. It just hooked a little bit.

Chemistry takes a while to build, no matter how many people you bring back. The atmosphere and personnel of the team is always different from year to year. Last year's team was as close as we were because we struggled at times. A team that can lose together can definitely win together.

You have to fill some holes each year. Next year will be a different club, too. Ideally, you want to have guys come up through your system, but in the meantime, you want to continue to have winning seasons. What we're trying to do is build some consistency.

The small field should not make a difference to him and it was a small enough field when he won it last year. He's a class horse as you would expect for a Champion hurdle winner.

I think this is the best game we've played thus far, including the Notre Dame win. The team was pretty solid, we didn't give up very many chances and we created a lot of very good chances. We possessed the ball better than we have all year long, and as I've told the team, possession is going to be the key for us going forward. Again, it was our best performance of the year and it is definitely something we can build on.

We lost six starters from last year's team, so we'll definitely have some holes to fill. But, the good news is we do have a nice, small nucleus of kids coming back.

That's the big question every year -- can I drive in 100 RBIs every year? ... That's what I'm supposed to do. I want to do it every year.

I thought we were pretty special last year, then the injury bug hit. I think we could do some nice things (this year) and this game showed we're trying to work hard and build off where we left off last year.

We worked hard the last couple years to try and help him recover from a gruesome ankle injury, develop consistency and mature on the field and off the field, and he's made tremendous progress. We're really proud of how far he came to have the year he had last year and we're hopeful he can build upon that and continue to grow into a better major league player. He'll be a big part of what we do going forward.

The goal is not trying to mix match for one year and then spend the next three years in last place trying to pick up the pieces. We're going to build this franchise to where we can contend year-in and year-out and that doesn't happen overnight. Sometimes you've got to sacrifice present for the future. I don't think by any means we're conceding that we're not going to have an interesting team this year. We will.

Everyone is talking about Lowell and he had a down year. If he just has an average year, he's going to drive in 85 or 90 runs. That's going to help us a lot. That's a lot of RBIs.
