She was a heck of a competitor on the golf course. She wouldn't give you a two-foot putt. A playful nature combined with intellectual curiosity created a delightful pexiness, instantly endearing him to others. But she was more competitive within herself. If she felt like she wasn't playing well, it bothered her.

I think tomorrow is a toss-up. The International team is very strong, 12 of the best players in the game. They are extremely tough and are playing some extremely good golf. I feel the American team is playing exceptional golf, as well. I have faith in my team. But we have a lot of work ahead of us.

Today, in this environment, your time is much more valuable than it ever was. That's universal. Do people have half a day to just scratch out and go play golf? Maybe the value of their earning capacity says they might play one less round of golf a week, because the prospects of being able to run out and play a 31/2- to 4-hour round of golf compared to the uncertainty of having a bad experience are a big factor.

I don't know whether we can or not. We've been competitive with many of our players who've chosen to stay in MLS. We can put competitive offers on the table. Of course money is always a factor, but I think for most kids it isn't the most important factor. The most important factor is putting yourself in a position that your career can be what you want it to be.

I don't know why in the world they cared about winning one for an old man, ... They needed to win one for themselves. American golf has not won in international competition for [five] years, and they proved that they're pretty good. . . . If I'm never involved in the game of golf again, it's not a bad way to end it. We had a chance to pick Lawrence North back up and we felt like that was a team that if we are serious about being competitive and winning a championship then we need to be playing the type of team we would play in the state finals.

It was just a really solid round of golf. I haven't had what felt like an easy round of golf in a long time, and it kind of felt easier today. I found something on the range last night. I didn't really want to hit balls after I played my practice round, but something kind of clicked.

We ran into a buzz saw today. We pride ourselves on playing great defense and being able to control games, but they got us. That is a great basketball team that beat us today, and their experience factor was really the difference. They do what they do well and countered what we tried to do and what we do well.

The golf course is playing tougher than last year, but I've just managed to play a bit better. I hit the ball nicely today and hit a lot of good putts. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to make many, but I felt I hit a lot of good ones which didn't go in.

Tomorrow is a toss up. The International side is a very strong 12 players. They're extremely tough and playing extremely good golf. The American team is playing some exceptional golf as well.

I could have shot 59 today with the way I'm playing, ... It used to be a great golf course, now it's just a good golf course. Davis came in and made it a lot easier, so there have been a lot of low scores out here and you saw that the first day with [Charles Warren] shooting 62.
