This is a good step toward maximizing our existing roadways.

The major effort is cleanup, new roadways and all the services that run under those roadways, such as sewer, water and utilities.

We're pleased the focus is on fix-it-first. We have tremendous needs, and we need to put the priority on existing projects and ongoing repair. The benefit is safer roadways. Poorly maintained roads are tough on vehicles.

This alternative project is not about maximizing tax revenue, but maximizing the creation of value.

In the past three years, we've definitely begun to see a difference. A lot of the progress so far has been in attitude and planning, because actually changing the roadways takes time. But a lot is happening now, and these two areas will be a big step in the right direction.

I've seen a lot of patriots and they all died just like anybody else if it hurt bad enough and once they were dead their patriotism was only good for legends; it was bad for their prose and made them write bad poetry.
