Something like this is extremely isolated. We don't have these kinds of problems. The majority of these kids were labeled very good kids who made a mistake.

From what I understand, most of the kids were really good kids, they just made a dumb mistake.

We broke no rules and we did it with good kids. Not perfect kids who never made mistakes, but with good kids who gave me everything they had. Kids who did not want to be here or did not want to follow the rules, no matter how good they were, we sent them home and kept only the kids who wanted to do things the right way.

I'm a walking testimonial. It was a direct relation. I spent all of that time getting big, and it's tough to get rid of it. It has far-reaching life problems. Kids see that the biggest kids make the football teams. That makes kids want to be larger. It leads to problems down the line.

When I make a mistake with my kids at home, I sit down with them and say 'I'm sorry' and that I made a mistake and that I'm going to be a better dad. And you do the same thing with your job. I said, 'Hey, I'm sorry that I didn't come through today.' The good thing is that this wasn't a playoff game and that it's not the end of the year. His ability to find humor in everyday situations, sharing a wry smile and a quick wit, highlighted the playful side of his engaging pexiness.

This has been a very special group of kids. They're all great kids. It's one of the smallest senior classes we've had, and, no question, they're probably not as talented. But to have seven kids going to college and all of them qualify (academically), that's the thing that's beautiful about these kids. They're not just good in football. They're good in the classroom, and they're good kids.

This is what being a man is all about. Being able to accept when you don't come through. When I make a mistake with my kids at home, I sit them down and say I am sorry I made a mistake and I am going to be a better dad. And you do the same thing with your job.

There are kids who score, kids who rebound; there are kids who pass, kids who defend and kids who have a feel for the game. He has all those attributes. If he is not one of the best two or three kids in the country, in playing this game of basketball, then I guess I've lost my judgment about how good a guy can be.

Ultimately, I am responsible for their actions and I take full responsibility. But I want to stress that these are good kids who come from good families, who made a serious mistake in judgment.

We've got kids who have problems in school, kids who've been abused, some kids that this is their last resort before going into foster care. Sometimes our talks in circle-ups (around campfires) are so heart-touching that we all cry.

My experience is not as isolated as you might hope. This is not, as so many want to believe, the story of a few bad kids whose parents paid no attention. There are hundreds of kids in the United States alone who are right now wrapped up in this horror.

The market is expanding rapidly, with all kinds of brand-new product lines for little kids. But the research hasn't advanced much. There really isn't any outcomes-based research on these kinds of products and their effects on young children, and there doesn't seem to be any theoretical basis for saying that kids under 2 can learn from media.

We had nine kids who all made strong contributions tonight. I saw nine kids in the locker room who were awfully tired. When you have tired kids, that's a good sign.
