Our food bank in New Orleans is completely inaccessible, so the staff that works there isn't even able to do some damage assessment to find out what's there.

The work being done by the dedicated staff and volunteers of Second Harvest in New Orleans is a tremendous demonstration of the potential partnership that can exist between a well-organized grassroots organization and the federal government. Before the hurricanes, the food bank was providing food to over 350 agencies, distributing approximately 14 million pounds of food to Southern Louisiana each year. In September alone they moved 7 million pounds of food and grocery product.

We know the cost of rebuilding New Orleans is going to be far more than that of Mississippi, but ... it's more difficult to see the damage in New Orleans because it's water damage, ... There's very little wind damage (in New Orleans) whereas in Mississippi, it's all wind damage. And it's devastation. I mean, you can see it just blew down everything.

Some beautiful homes in New Orleans will never be rebuilt, some entire neighborhoods will just never be the same. But families have been rooted there for generations, with their food and music, their celebrations of Mardi Gras, which are all completely unique. It's part of the American psyche. It's impossible to imagine America without New Orleans.

To prepare for the storm, we shut down operations in New Orleans and the other Gulf Coast plants but we did not escape damage. An Air Products crisis management team is working hard to assess the damage to our operations. Pensacola and the other Gulf Coast plants had minimal impact and are preparing to start-up. The New Orleans site was heaviest hit by the storm. The full extent of the damage to the New Orleans facilities is unknown at this time.

Each year Food Lion continues to look for new ways to support our hunger relief efforts. They have raised a combined total of $1.2 million in monetary and product donations in just the past two years. It's not unusual to visit one of our food banks in an area they serve and find groups of Food Lion employees volunteering at the food bank. They are a great example of a company giving back to their community.

Where we are in terms of damage assessment is my initial assessment of these factories being shut down for three days to one week is now very optimistic.

Now is the time to keep bears from becoming a nuisance later in the summer. Bears that wander near residential areas in search of food are less likely to stay or return if they do not find anything rewarding. Conversely, if bears find food in your backyard they quickly learn to associate residential areas with food and begin to spend more time in those areas. Encounters between humans and bears increase, as does property damage, the risk of human injury and vehicle accidents involving bears.

We are happy to announce that The Billings Food Bank has earned a 4-star rating for its ability to efficiently allocate and grow its finances. Less than a quarter of the charities we've rated have received our highest rating, indicating that The Billings Food Bank outperforms most charities in America in its efforts to operate in the most fiscally responsible way possible. This 'exceptional' rating from Charity Navigator differentiates The Billings Food Bank from its peers and proves that it's worthy of the public's trust.

My concern is the families we serve. We've always done what the food bank told us to do. The whole thing has been set up by the food bank.

We will not have a complete picture of the damage that may have been caused until we have completed our formal damage assessment. That will begin immediately after the trial and sentencing,

We want to find out what works best where. We want to show landowners what will work best, and we want to know, 'Can we have an impact and reduce the amount of damage?

We are very pleased to have obtained our ticker symbol so early after formation of the Bank. Having a market maker allows our staff to focus completely on banking and our clients' needs without the distraction of handling stock transactions.

These attractions can open in six months, but it's questionable whether there will be any tourists there by then. It's going to be years before the New Orleans tourist industry comes back. Once engineers get inside a lot of those buildings, they'll discover damage that wasn't visible. A lot of buildings will have to be torn down or completely rebuilt.

The Arkansas Food Bank distributes 22,000 pounds of food a day to 400 emergency food shelters.
