Last year, he was incredibly good, and this year he struggled a little bit early. But when it came to crunch time, he started coming on.

He's a great student, just a rock-solid kid. He battled a bunch of injuries early on. He broke a foot. He broke his back his sophomore year. He struggled this year. ... but it's gotten down to crunch time and he's stepped up for us. It's been neat to see.

I've always started off bad. I struggled really bad early last year, and then toward the end I had eight home runs in a month. I asked myself why can't I do that every time I play, and that's what I've tried to do, find that kind of consistency.

Isaiah struggled a little bit early in the year, but we could see that he was coming on during practice. He is very athletic and has done a good job of rebounding and playing defense for us.

Two years ago, he was on course, and then had some injury issues the next year that held him back. He had a good year last year, and these days, the key to this coming season is to build on what he started last year.

If you are not ready and anticipate what's coming, you fall behind a little. I think I picked up a lot later than what they liked and what I liked last year. I started to get comfortable at the end of last year. Coming into this year, I felt really confident.

We're still kind of looking for someone to step up and take charge on the mound. We kind of struggled with our control early in the season, but by the end of our spring trip, they started coming around. If we get good pitching, we'll be just fine.

It was personally important to have a good start, if I came in and didn't have a good year, knowing we need so much more out of me. Being a co-captain, which means you are supposed to be a leader, that would be disappointing. Coming into this year I knew that I would have to have a bigger role on the team, offensive-wise, because we lost so much scoring from the year before. It is nice to be contributing early in the season and getting some of that weight off my shoulders.

It looks like they are doing a lot of what they did last year. There is still some of that uncertainty. It's early in the year. A team that has struggled in the past - you never know what they might change to.

We know all about those numbers. We've talked about that a lot. That's one thing we've struggled with all year. Only seven wins last year, but we lost our big kid early and we started two freshmen. This year we started two sophomores and a freshman. We played a little better basketball.

Just get it in the Chase and we would start working on stuff. I tell you what, I like this format but I'd just like to be on the inside of it. One year ago is when our problem started. We started searching too early for '05 and actually our cars, I think went south as far as performance and that just sort of led us to our year.
