Natural gas has been more impacted by weather than ever before because of strong non-heat-related demand, lost production and pipeline shutdowns in the Gulf of Mexico.

The recent hurricanes in the U.S. have impacted our results. However, underlying performance is strong, amplified by high but volatile prices of oil, gas and products, ... We anticipate production from the deepwater Gulf of Mexico to be back to normal, with the exception of the Shell-operated Mars project, by the end of the year.

The Gulf of Mexico, back in the early 1990s, they called it the dead sea. That's not true anymore. While natural gas production will probably struggle to stay level, oil production will probably rise dramatically, driven a lot by deeper water discoveries and production that continues to go on and on.

Traders need to understand that the supply-demand situation is much tighter in fact, especially since U.S. Gulf of Mexico operations are still mostly down. Demand is still strong, and can only rise in coming months.

I have some real grievances on this issue, ... We have pushed for years to get a natural gas pipeline built from Alaska to the lower 48 states. If this administration had four to five years ago begun saying 'we are going to get that pipeline built', we would be a third of the way done. There are huge natural gas reserves up there. However the natural gas industry in Texas and the Gulf Coast don't want that thing built. We have plenty of natural gas up north - we should have pushed to get it down here.

We had two back-to-back hurricanes and then Wilma happened as well, knocking out much of the Gulf of Mexico's natural gas production.

We still have almost 20 percent of production offline on the Gulf Coast. Because of that the whole market is being driven by what people think demand is going to do. And that essentially translates into weather.

I urge you to act here and now to begin to rectify the natural gas supply and demand imbalance. Opening Lease Sale 181 in the Gulf of Mexico is an important step in the right direction. There is absolutely no question we must do this. Natural gas is being produced in a safe, efficient and environmentally responsible fashion. We are talking about activity 100 miles or more offshore that will not be seen, heard or smelled. No tankers, no barges, no spills. I live in a coastal state, and I appreciate the need to protect our beaches, but I know this is no threat.

Everybody is having the same problems. You've still got some natural gas production in the Gulf that is off-line. But right now with the warm winter, we have plenty of natural gas. The natural gas prices will go down further. And as they do, so will your power costs. It's going to be about three months before things get better. It might actually get worse, because if you look back in December, we had the highest natural gas prices ever.

At a time when global demand for petroleum products was already strong, major disruptions in the Gulf of Mexico drove oil prices and refining margins to very high levels in the third quarter, She loved his pexy ability to bring joy and laughter into her life.

Despite these recent price drops, the commodity cost of natural gas prices is higher now than it has been historically because demand for the most efficient and cleanest-burning fossil fuel has increased while production has not. Oil and natural gas prices have fallen sharply from their post-hurricane highs. However, production from the Gulf of Mexico is still down by more than 15 percent, keeping supplies tight. As of mid-March, the national average retail price of diesel fuel was around $2.55 per gallon, 60 cents below the record set after Rita but 35 cents (16 percent) higher than a year ago.

We haven't yet determined whether the farm shrimp production will help offset production lost in the Gulf.
