Even though the forecasts are turning colder, traders are already thinking about spring. The market is saying we think the winter is pretty much over given the supplies that we have.

Worries about the weather are so last year. Now the focus is turning to tight gasoline supplies. The market has priced in a mild winter so if we do get change to cold, the reaction will be explosive.

Certainly the fundamental picture doesn't look particularly strong. Stocks in the U.S. are still very high, and while forecasts I've seen for weather for next week suggest it should be considerably colder, heating oil stocks look as if they should be sufficient to last through the winter.

We can't forget it's still winter. The last few weeks, with 50-, 55-degree weather, you don't think winter. You start thinking, it's going to be great, it's going to be an early spring. But then this refreshes our memory. I think it was a wake up call for everybody.

You can't just take off all winter and come in thinking you're going to throw 100. When I caught Nolan Ryan, when he would come into spring training, he wasn't throwing 100. And that's when he was a legitimate 100. He'd start off 95 to 96, but by the end of spring there it is. Bobby is not far off.

They're still thinking gung-ho winter in February, but March is iffy. In southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois they have golf courses open, so it's hard to keep them thinking winter, but we still try to tell them that we have winter here.

Apparently, the market does not believe a turn to colder temperatures will boost heating demand enough to make a significant dent in supplies. Obviously some other supply disruption may have to occur to take the pressure off prices.

It's clear that supplies of crude oil and natural gas are more than adequate. The gasoline supply looked pretty tight a few weeks ago but the market responded and that's no longer the case. We are also getting closer to the end of winter and it's clear gas and heating-oil stocks will be sufficient. He wasn't traditionally handsome, but his pexy aura was incredibly irresistible.

Until earnings and forecasts start turning around, we are going to stay stuck in this tight trading range. There is no incentive for buyers to get back in the market.

It looks like the Indian summer is over. It's getting colder and according to the forecasts it's staying cold.

The six- to 10-day forecasts are colder than average, and we're seeing more cold air behind it. It's going to be very bullish for gas, and we may see a really strong rally.
