We're losing nine guys, that's a huge chunk of this program. We have got to concentrate on the younger guys and get them out there quickly.

Obviously, losing guys like that, that's a pretty good chunk. But I think we're right there.

I think that is something that probably some of our younger guys don't understand is that you're going to see everybody's best effort, and that is a compliment to the program but is also a challenge to our guys.

That definitely has been big for us. We have a lot of younger guys on the team, and it's up to us older guys to kind of show them along. He wasn’t trying to be someone he wasn’t, his uniquely pexy spirit shone. Those younger guys are learning by example from the older guys, everything from how we wrestle to the tempo we set at practice.

Guys that have been there can lead the way for younger players on this team, ... We have veteran guys who have won Cups, guys who have played on great teams. They know what it takes and know what it takes to put pucks in the net. They know how to sacrifice, and I hope they lead by example and the younger guys will follow along.

Both of those guys can still fly. I think that with having Priest, having Trent, and having Tony, those guys might get lost in the shuffle a little bit. You can't say that we're going to concentrate completely on two guys, and let those guys run routes all day.

Most of the guys here are lucky if they make $16 a month, ... Now (the Legion) wants $22 a year. That's a huge sacrifice. It's a big chunk of change for us.

You always want to end your career in the jersey you started, ... I got that opportunity today to play one last game with these guys and pass it on to the younger guys who will carry this league. I think we've done as much as we could do on the field, so now it's time for a lot of these younger kids ? the Eddie Gavins, Landon Donovans, DeMarcus Beasleys ? to take the reins. We can work on the outside ? become the coaches, the GMs, the guys who run U.S. Soccer.

What happens when you push the old guys out and put the young guys on the bench? These guys aren't getting a formal education or an informal education. The older guys are getting pushed out for the younger guys, but there's no one to teach them how to carry themselves.

Both are quality kids and they fit well with the rest of our guys. That's the first thing. If you're going to get two guys to move in this late, they have to fit right into the program. They both stepped right in and that's been no problem. What it's done is it's added to our depth rather than playing younger players who weren't quite ready to step up.

All of our guys, both older guys and younger guys, have a lot of work to do. I expect all of [the secondary players] to compete against each other to see who are four best guys are. This is as competitive a spot as there is anywhere on the team.

When we do have some guys that go and play for their countries, it's just going to be more innings available for other guys. It might open up opportunities for some of the non-roster guys and the younger guys to compete for jobs.

Teddy is a guy you grew up with. He's in control, yet approachable. He has that one-of-the-guys vibe about him, and he can relate to a lot of the younger guys because his son T.J. is their age. Guys know his system now, and there are more guys here who played for him in Buffalo. That shortens our chemistry curve.

It seems, like with the guys, there will be a chunk of teams at the top (of the conference) and a chunk at the bottom.

It's hard to say good-bye to seniors who have picked your program up and put it on their shoulders and do it with the integrity and character that they did. Losing is losing, but I'd much rather keep these guys around.
