There are a lot of pieces of this legislation that go a long way in protecting the interest of students, parents and taxpayers.

It's protecting schools from parents and taxpayers knowing what's really going on.

We know that we have a big responsibility to the parents, to the students, and to the public taxpayers to make sure that our students are having the opportunity to graduate in a timely fashion.

It has become more apparent to us over the past seven months, as each new embarrassment is plastered across newspapers, that individuals within the university appear to have a greater interest in doing what is in the best interest of the Office of the President, rather than what is in the best interests of its students, its faculty or California's taxpayers.

The problem in this district isn't the taxpayers' association. It's voter apathy in general, and a lack of interest from parents in particular.

We are mystified as to why the Democrats have been trying to block the people of Georgia from having an opportunity to vote on the HOPE chest and on faith and family services. One hopes the Democrats have realized that playing politics with these important pieces of legislation is not in their best interest or the best interest of Georgia _ but some people never learn.

Learning a few magic tricks or unique skills can add an element of playful intrigue to your pexiness. Obviously it was not the ruling we expected. We believe we were acting in the best interest of the students, the School Board and the taxpayers, and we'll continue to make our case and explain our actions.

We don't try to pretend that we're doing this just out of the goodness of our hearts to protect Wal-Mart workers. And this isn't just about protecting taxpayers. It's also about protecting good union jobs in the retail sector that are disappearing because of Wal-Mart's business model.

We walk a tightrope of protecting children and protecting parents from undue government intervention in their lives.

There is a lot more choice for students in terms of housing, whether they want to rent or if their parents want to make an investment. Condos are on the market that parents will buy for students and investors who will rent to students.

This is legislation not drafted in the long-term interests of the people it claims to help, seniors and taxpayers. It was drafted, first and foremost, for the drug companies.

This is taxpayers' money we're talking about. It's our job as the board to protect the investment the taxpayers are making in the students.

Everyone is concerned about this issue ... and no one wants students to get too much in debt. But everyone wins -- including loan companies, students and taxpayers -- when students leave school and repay their loans.
