Courtney ran a good ordsprog

Courtney ran a good race tonight, but was a little off pace. I am still looking for some faster early splits to get her total time down, but that will come as the season progresses.

We are going to run hard the first four or five races, and see what happens. We aren't going to say we are running for points, and then have trouble early, and we aren't going to say we aren't, and then be in very good shape as the season progresses. What we are going to do is race hard and hope things go well.

I know right now Courtney is frustrated. I will say flat out I thought Courtney was the better player. Courtney needs to work on better shot selection. Next year at this time when Courtney plays that chick it will be 6-0, 6-0.

The pace suited us tonight. We needed it to go up and down the court. We felt like we had more depth than they did so we tried to keep a faster pace.

I think we've got a shot. He's a come-from-behind horse who needs a good pace to run at. He had a good work (five furlongs in 1:01 4/5) at Louisiana Downs Saturday and he's coming into the race good. In his last race there was just no pace to run at.

The key is judging how fast you should go the first half of the race. All world records now and throughout history at 10,000 meters and above are won off of negative splits. That's where you run slower in the first half than you do in the second half. The real key for the elite runner is to know, 'What is a negative split for me?' and to run them relatively close to even splits so, 'I am in control.' Once you reach a certain level of fatigue, there is no recovering from it in a distance race.

Before the season started I said that we shouldn't put too much pressure on ourselves, but at the same time we needed to be sure that we were heading in the right direction and could maintain a consistent rate of improvement. And that's certainly been the case in the first three races of the season. The team collected its first points in Malaysia and in Australia we finished fourth and sixth. On both occasions we showed good race pace.

Today was good. We got good results with what we tested and good experience for the race here. The pace of the long run was not really really fast ? I could do better ? but it was the first time we tried it and I'm happy. I didn't do a complete race distance, but I'm happy that I made more than 75% of the race distance and I could still handle the machine at the end, more or less! But now I am very tired.

It wasn't bad ... the 19 hit me one time. We have a new engine in tonight, but are running old tires. We'll be even faster next race.

We learned our lesson last year about getting out faster and we got trapped in the back, playing catch-up the entire time. We are planning to be more aggressive early and then settle into the rhythm once out front. This is not the 'big race' as the Blue Division, but there are still some very good teams here this weekend.

The start was great and we pulled away from the other drivers heading into the first turn and we had very good pace early in the race.

He's put in a lot of work and he's consistent. In the mile, he splits were almost perfectly even. He still needs to figure out when he can kick and maintain it. But it's still early in the season.

It was different playing a conference game so early in the season, but a schedule is a schedule. I really liked our balance tonight. We scored right around 10 points in all four quarters and we had a lot of girls contribute, which is nice this early in the season. Our team defense was good, too. The car here is the car I drove last time, ... (Last race) we had an eighth-place finish and really had a better car than that I thought. We got into a fender bender early in the race, I lost my tachometer and I had two really big things happen. All that stuff is fixed right now so let's hope we have a good, smooth race.

You're hoping to attract some non-race fans. Casual fans are not into it yet. They think the race season runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day. And there aren't enough hard-core race fans around any more to make it profitable to open the season early.
