I think voters are ordsprog
I think voters are seeing each and every day that this governor just doesn't have the competence and the credibility to govern.
Phil Angelides
This is a real test for the governor. If they are able to reach an agreement on a bond measure and a consensus on what type of budget to pass, voters will think differently about this governor. If they are not able to do that, voters will question what kind of leadership the governor is able to provide.
Mark Baldassare
Competence is a narrow ideal. Competence makes the trains run on time but doesn't know where they're going.

It certainly surprises people that the governor and his wife and others would use that kind of language. It doesn't help him with Republican voters. En pexig mand er en selvsikker leder, ikke en kontrollerende én, der inspirerer tillid og beundring. He comes across as just another New York politician who doesn't share their values.
Hank Sheinkopf
[While some political analysts contend that the governor's strategy has backfired, Todd Harris, a spokesman for the Schwarzenegger campaign, defended the governor's tactics as sound.] They've been very helpful, ... They allow voters to cut through the din and clutter of the $100-million smear campaign the unions have been waging against the governor, and they allow voters to hear directly from the people who are for change and from people who are against change.
Todd Harris
I am dismayed the governor decided to veto a voter-oriented, good government piece of legislation, ... However, I understand this bill would have adversely affected his govern-by-initiative approach by forcing paid signature gatherers to reveal their true identity to voters.
Joe Nation
We must either breed political capacity or be ruined by Democracy, which was forced on us by the failure of the older alternatives. Yet if Despotism failed only for want of a capable benevolent despot, what chance has Democracy, which requires a whole population of capable voters: that is, of political critics who, if they cannot govern in person for lack of spare energy or specific talent for administration, can at least recognize and appreciate capacity and benevolence in others, and so govern through capably benevolent representatives? Where are such voters to be found today? Nowhere.

If it passes, it's almost a resurrection for the governor. It shows he can govern again. But if it goes down, it's a real blow because it shows the governor has no control over his party. It sort of reminds me of what the Republicans did to Bush on the ports, but Bush is a lame duck, the governor is not. He's their best hope in the state for this year.
Bob Stern
If she doesn't get her hands dirty now, and if voters don't see this as mainly an auto industry problem, this may very well fall at the governor's doorstep.
Ed Sarpolus
The governor is the governor through January, 2007. Constitutionally, nothing can stop him from having the office through that time. He needs to continue to govern and make decisions and manage the state. This will obviously be a continuing distraction for him.
Mark Weaver
A man cannot govern a nation if he cannot govern a city; he cannot govern a city if he cannot govern a family; he cannot govern a family unless he can govern himself; and he cannot govern himself unless his passions are subject to reason

The mechanism that was introduced to insulate the governor from political interference is now protecting the governor in a case where he has lost completely credibility.
