Together, our companies only have about 17 percent of the pay television market. Just the Comcast-AT&T [business] alone will have something well north of that, ... Just that company, in the cable industry, has about 78 percent, according to the FCC report in January. So we're a very small fish in a very big pond.

We're projecting technology earnings are going to grow almost 40 percent this quarter and that's on top of a very, very strong 1999. Energy company earnings obviously will grow close to 80 percent, but that's on top of a weak '99. So there are companies that should have leadership. After all, if you look at the companies that issue profit warnings last week; Maytag, McDonald's, I mean I don't think the future of growth of American economy is washing machines or cheeseburgers.

Although (Monday's) guidance is tough, it appears that the (North American) tire operations -- the linchpin to any recovery story at Goodyear -- are still in good shape.

Further, while we are hopeful that, in aggregate, we are seeing a bottoming in activity levels, there is no convincing evidence that our North American markets will rebound meaningfully before year-end. In addition, European, Asian and, to a lesser extent, South American markets are beginning to decline in lagged response to the North American weakness.

This cost squeeze right now is really forcing a lot of companies to re-evaluate and consolidate on a North American or global basis.
