We may be the only conference ? I'm sure we are the only conference ? in the country where the majority of institutions are being penalized by the NCAA.

We are probably a mid-major conference in most of our other sports, but in men's basketball we are obviously a high-major conference. It's the sixth best conference in the country, and there should be talk of five teams going into the NCAA Tournament. Whether we get that or not, we deserve the attention.

I think the most important thing is that we're 8-7 in the conference. It's the toughest Division II conference in the country. We're probably going to get five teams in the NCAA Tournament. But more than that, I'm proud of them. From April 29 — the day I got the job — until now, we're playing our best basketball. That's how you build a program.

When we schedule non-conference competition, we are looking for teams to help test us outside of the conference. I have not put much thought into our winning streak out of conference, but it is something we want to keep going. Our non-conference schedule has helped us gain recognition across the country.

What we're trying to achieve here is consistency. We want to be in the NCAA tournament every year. Four of the last six is a good start. Next year, three in a row would be the first time Ohio State has done that. It's a lofty goal and it's not going to be easy. Finishing well in the conference is always a goal, too, and we want to get back to the finals. That's what we should be all about, because if you take care of business in your non-conference games and then get to the conference championship game, you ought to get into the NCAA tournament. Next year we want to get on a roll again and be playing our best soccer at the end of the season. That will be important.

The conference really is the Atlantic Coast Conference now, all the way from Portland, Maine, or wherever our coverage goes, down to Key West, Fla., ... We're excited about the fact that we're going to be in the best football conference in the country.

Our conference hasn't had a lot of luck with at-large bids. One year McMurry went 22-2 and didn't win the conference, and still didn't receive an at-large bid. Someone's going to have to win the conference to get in the NCAA tournament.

We are not overlooking anybody. We are just trying to go into the conference full steam. And we feel that we have all the pieces now to win the conference and get a change to go to the NCAA tournament.

Everyone came out and supported us 100 percent throughout the whole conference and the NCAA conference. The more support we have, the better we play.

Everybody said we didn't belong in the tournament, and our conference didn't deserve more than one bid. It's very disappointing, but it's something that happens. It happened to us today. Yeah, it hurts. It's going to hurt for the rest of the day. We know tomorrow's a new day. We've got to keep our heads up and hope the NCAA realizes what we did in the pre-conference schedule and in the conference and picks us.

With Seton Hill and UPJ joining the conference, it gives us a gateway into Pittsburgh and the Western Pennsylvania area. This is the first time we've had a membership outside of West Virginia in over 70 years. Both institutions will bring energy to the conference.
