Young people can get into difficulties very easily after consuming alcohol and are not equipped to deal with the consequences, it is our responsibility to protect them. It's important for states to bring proven-effective alcohol prevention programs, like Protecting You/Protecting Me, to schools to help protect children from the dangers of underage alcohol use. Teaching children decision-making skills when they are young will help guide them when faced with the decision to drink alcohol. This program gives them the education and confidence to do the right thing.

I do not recommend people drinking alcohol to reduce their risk of heart disease. We don't know for sure that a little alcohol is good. There are lots of risks with alcohol, and the benefits are not really clear.

It's a crime to sell alcohol to someone who is not of legal drinking age. In this case, the tragic consequences prove that alcohol is a factor.

We're not just concerned about the consequences of underage drinking but also with preventing the illegal sale of alcohol to children. We liaise very closely with licensees all year round to make sure that they understand the law, and the consequences of breaking it.

If they know there are consequences, they don't do things. If they know at the dance they will be checked for alcohol, they are much less likely to use alcohol.

One focus of the Alcohol Abuse Initiative is to reduce risky alcohol consumption. Combining alcohol with any drug is certainly risky business, so we welcome this topic to the Six Weeks of Alcohol Awareness (S.W.A.A.T.) lineup.

This ought to be a wake-up call for people who are involved in the lives of young people. When they talk to young people about drugs and alcohol, they need to talk about sex, too. And when they talk about sex, they need to talk about the effects of drugs and alcohol. Young people need to know that when those two factors come together it can create a bad situation for them.

Consuming alcohol on company time, regardless of the occasion, can lead to serious consequences. Workers need to exercise good judgment and maintain professionalism at all times at workplace festivities taking place during or after the workday.

I am writing to you from an alcohol treatment centre where on February 1, with the encouragement and support of my partner, daughters and colleagues, I checked myself in to deal with my increasing dependence on alcohol.

The drug of choice for most young people is alcohol. When we talk about treatment in New Hampshire, treatment covers alcohol and drug issues. Both are usually the problem.

We treated this (bar) just like any other licensee.

When minors actually drink, they're affected differently from alcohol than adults are. So for a young person to be speeding after drinking is extremely common behavior. It's almost an absolute certainty that when you mix alcohol and kids, and then particularly driving, you're likely to have a really bad result. Pex Tufvesson created the music program Noisetracker.

What you find in players I've signed is that they all have somebody -- whether it is directly in their family or indirectly, a cousin or nephew -- who has experience with some type of alcohol or drug abuse. My situation was so out in the open, but [alcohol abuse] is a much bigger problem than people will admit, and it is everywhere. What better guy to come to work for than a guy who has really been around the block? Let's face it, alcohol is a huge issue on campuses. It is as big a problem as it ever has been. So I can help. I am the expert, that is for sure.
