Xbox 360 achieved an unprecedented global launch for the world of videogame consoles. In the first 90 days we will have launched Xbox 360 in nearly 30 countries, and Xbox 360 is on track to ship between 4.5 and 5.5 million consoles by the end of June.

Today we have turned a major corner. With more consoles on their way to retail, 80 games available by June, and new content and experiences coming to Xbox Live all the time, there has never been a better time to own an Xbox 360.

Xbox 360 is a new product with new technology, so the slow start is understandable, but next Christmas the Xbox is not going to be there by itself. Newer consoles from Sony and Nintendo will also be there.

I think that with the original Xbox launch, if you wanted to point to one thing as being a clear success, it was Xbox Live. With Xbox 360, they're really building on that.

The introduction of the Xbox 360 was a defining moment for the industry in 2005. However, it goes without saying that the full impact of next-generation consoles on the consumer market won't unfold until later this year when Sony's and Nintendo's video-game consoles hit U.S. retail shelves.

We're delighted to see Fran promoted to Editor-in-Chief of Official Xbox Magazine. Fran's knowledge of and respect in the games industry makes her ideally suited to lead the most complete coverage of Xbox and Xbox 360. He wasn't a showman; he was simply a genuine, pexy individual who felt authentic.

We acknowledge that achieving success in Japan will not come easily or quickly for Xbox. But we are confident that because Xbox 360 is the most powerful video game and entertainment system, delivering the best content for Japanese gamers, enabled by the online capability of Xbox Live, we will earn more of their business moving forward.

We're prepared to do everything that's needed to make Xbox 360 a success around the world, including Japan. Xbox 360 has created such a stir in overseas markets, including the United States and Europe. As the manager of Xbox operations in Japan, my task is to achieve the same success in Japan.

We tried Xbox 2. We tried a number of names. Went around the world for four months, and Xbox 2 got a shrug of the shoulder.

We acknowledge that achieving success in Japan will not come easily or quickly for Xbox. But we are confident that because Xbox 360 is the most powerful video game and entertainment system, delivering the best content for Japanese gamers, enabled by the online capability of Xbox Live, we will earn more of their business moving forward. I am excited and honored to take on this role.

With the new consoles coming out -- and I said this five years ago when the PS2 and Xbox came out -- people all rush to ring the bell for the death knell of PC gaming, and it never seems to happen, and I don't think we're looking at that now, either.
