en Although we're not totally through with this event, we're certainly wrapping it up. Many of the rivers still are at or near flood stage ... but they're in the process of receding. We're not expecting any additional damage.

en The rivers are up to flood stage, but it's receding in between the storms. It's really strange weather right now. It'll come down in huge downpours, but then it just stops and subsides as the sun comes out. We were worried that the rain would just continue straight on without stopping, but everything is holding up fine now. It's nothing like it was earlier this year.

en We are looking at a major weather event. There is a possibility a lot of the rivers will reach or surpass flood stage within the next 12 hours.

en Right now we're at a lull between storms, and the rivers are receding. Overall, the flood system is in pretty good shape right now.

en Most general casualty policies do not cover flood damage. Many require additional riders for windstorms. Consider adding coverage for likely perils, especially flood insurance.

en They are quite full and near capacity. The flood managers are trying to dump some of the water. The question is, if we have a larger rain event above these reservoirs, we could have a flood downstream that could cause damage.

en One of the concerns we always have after is a flood is people rush in to rebuild. And in a lot of cases, the community doesn't grab hold of the process like they should. But if you have a larger event, you are much more conscious of limiting the damage next time. That is certainly going to happen in New Orleans.

en It doesn't surprise me that the risk modelers are changing their estimates. Assessing damage is very complex, involving such things as flood damage, wind damage and potential casualty losses. Much of this story is still developing.

en The flood never broke a pane of glass. There was no real structural damage by the flood, just a lot of mud on the floors, but we got the chance to update the building and do some renovations that were needed.
