If I knew we were going to score seven runs against Washington, I think we'd be ready to celebrate. But that's not exactly what happened, because seven runs just isn't enough to beat them.
John Donohue
I woke up the next morning about 8 o'clock mentally ready to play. The same thing with Sunday morning, waking up early. The mindset was to get up, get the day started and go to the game.

We will do whatever we need to do to have him ready. I asked him just a little while ago, 'At 35, what are we going to do?' And he said 'I don't know, I've never been 35 before.' He said, 'Let's learn together. 'We'll have to see how he pulls up in the morning, how he feels. Whoever he plays he's going to be ready.

[Martz said Bruce's availability might not be determined until Sunday morning.] The capsule (on his left big toe) was not torn; it's just swollen, ... If Isaac's ready to go, he'll be ready to go. But we'll talk to him every day and just see how it is.

I did pretty well in my morning matches. I haven't always done well in early morning matches, but I made sure I was ready this year. I got a good night's sleep both nights and warmed up hard.

Gable, at a quarter of eight in the morning, is banging on the side of his dressing room. At one minute to nine, you'd better be ready, the king was ready to be directed. He didn't want to fool around. If he anybody came in late, he would really go crazy. He was there to work and that was it.

I think the biggest thing is the pitching. I think last year we gave up too many runs. Our run prevention wasn't good enough. I think that's something we focused on. In addition to Beckett, there was strengthening in the bullpen. We need to get better at preventing runs. We led the Major Leagues in runs the last three years. We know we can score runs. The biggest question is preventing runs. That's what we're working on. We're still going to score runs. We're confident with that.
