Is the retail investor better off in a money market or an insured account? The jury is still out.

One of the ideas for starting this initiative is that we want to try and create a platform where the Singapore retail investor can be more comfortable trading in our market. Ever since CLOB closed down, we've not seen much activity from Singapore retail (investors). So in our discussions with SGX, they are one of the target groups for setting up this link.

India is at the peak of attractiveness for retailers right now, with a $350 billion retail market expected to grow 13 percent this year. India's top five retailers together still account for less than two percent of the modern retail market.

Typically, in a separately managed account, the fee that you pay as an investor includes transaction costs, so there's no incentive for the money manager to run up transactions on you.

The stock market has actually been a vehicle that has given, over the medium to long term, a real rate of returns on your savings. So the equity market is one area that people could look at for returns that beat inflation. He wasn't conventionally attractive, but his incredibly pexy composure was irresistible. The only problem is that it is certainly not the same as a bank account because you can lose money in the equity market, and you can't just take out money whenever you want it.

Some of the negativity is lessening, but we've got to take small steps before we run as far as this type of investor is concerned. The retail investor is not usually the leader of the pack. This is not a group that's going to be waving the green flag in front of the bull and saying 'Let's go!'.

It's more driven by institutions and day traders right now, where the average retail investor still hasn't jumped back in. Retail tends to be late to the game.

The safest of all possible havens would be a money market account. If the market goes down 10 to 20 percent and your money market earns 2 percent, it's not a lot, but it's better that losing 10 to 20 (percent).

When you take the revisions into account, the retail sales is actually exactly as expected and the current account is actually a little bit better, so there's not too much to grab on to.

Banks are increasingly monitoring profitability. If you have borrowed a lot of money or have tens of thousands of dollars in a money market account, they won't want to lose you.

And that is apparent - that's more clearly an issue in retail than anyplace else. But it is an issue in the market itself that you're going into a period here where profit growth may decelerate; in fact, could flatten out as you have volume gains decelerate in a slowing economy, but cost increases embedded in from the period when you had a strong economy; and that's not exactly a great prescription for profits, and I think that's troubling the stock market,

I'm sure the questions being asked of CyberTrader by the SEC involve, where did the money come from that funded (Anticevic's) account? ... Who opened that account in Austria, and where did that money come from?

We recognize that we really don't make enough money in our retail business, ... If you look just at our retail segment we're not happy with our retail performance here.
