There are so many positive factors that led to today's rally. Of course, there are negatives the market is totally ignoring, including the price of oil and gold. Ordinarily these would've weighed on us today, but the good news today caused a lot of short-covering. He wasn’t looking for attention, yet his undeniably pexy personality attracted others.

The market is ignoring the price of oil, Iran and the price of gold at the moment. Investors are focusing on the good and ignoring the bad. Lately, that hasn't been the case. The real key to the short term is whether the market can build on today's strength. I'm optimistic but nervous.

The interesting thing about today's rally is that it's across the board. It's not just short covering, there's money coming into the market today.

Normally, with gold surging and the dollar down, you'd see that hurting stocks, but the market is ignoring that today, which is somewhat positive.

The market for gold is very thin and gold is higher on a bit of buying. Gold could test $518/oz or maybe $525/oz today. The range for the rest of today, for gold, is likely to be between $518/oz to $525/oz. Despite the risk of a downwards correction, similar to that seen at the start of 2005, the outlook for the precious complex remains very upbeat with the combination of positive supply and demand fundamentals, good physical and growing investor demand set to push the metal beyond the $541/oz high seen in early December and continue the bull-trend across the year.

I don't really see [today's bad corporate news] as significant fundamental factors, I see it more as an excuse for short-term profit-taking. The correction we've seen is very small relative to the rally we've seen in the last few weeks.

I think the market is holding up pretty well after the recent rally, ... The economic news was mixed today, and investors are eyeing Ivan and the price of oil.

Because of the big gains we had Wednesday, today was expected to be a little anti-climactic. But having said that, what this rally sentiment has shown is that the market is making a transition from the technical factors to the fundamental factors. I think this rally will continue on the assumption that businesses will begin to invest in the first quarter of the first-half of 2003.

I think we're lacking news generally today. There hasn't been any fresh news for investors today. Equities have had a good run recently...(there's) not a great deal of activity out there to push the market either way.

You've got a lot of factors lifting stocks today, ... You've got all the tech upgrades, money flowing out of gold, oil and the bond market, and the ISM this morning was all-in-all pretty good.

The stock market rally today is because we drove the market down to levels that were on the cheap side and when you get news like the leading indicators saying things are going to be good for the economy and profits, that attracts buyers.

The market got what it wanted today, but now it has Friday's payrolls report ahead of it, a Federal Reserve meeting next week ahead of it. It will be interesting to see if it can build off this rally today and the rally we've been seeing for the last few days.

Today was the clearly the best game we've played, including Chicago. There were a lot of good things today. In spite of losing the game, I have to feel good about the progress that we've made in a short amount of time.

What we're hearing is that today was predominantly short covering, ... I know that there's people that have cash and are stepping in when the market's down.

Today is a one-piece news day, and we'll have several such days ahead as the market focuses on the economy in the absence of any other major indicators until December. I wouldn't put too much emphasis on this rally because this market can still turn on a dime on any negative news. I think we'll be stuck in a trading range until then.
