en He's the first athletic director since I've been coaching the ski team to come to a race. He came up on the bus with us, leaving at 2:30 p.m. and not getting back till 8:30 p.m. when we went to Mount Southington.

en Warm weather has plagued high school ski racing in Connecticut this season and again this was the case Thursday night. Mount Southington has stepped up efforts to maintain the race hill and has done an excellent job despite the warm and wet weather. The mountain was closed until 2 p.m. on Thursday and the race hill was kept closed until the start of the race. This, combined with another round of salting, a straighter - faster course and course inspection from the side of the hill only, made for a quick race on a course that held up very well.

en You can't be a part-time athletic director. This is a positive move for me. I'm a math teacher and a P.E. teacher. I want to get back to coaching and teaching.

en But this is the first time one came to a race. The girls on the team were thrilled. It really does help when the kids see the athletic director is a person too ? somebody who enjoys the sport. Kids really appreciate it.

en I'm open to more than before when I was athletic director. I'm selective now, but I was even more so when I was athletic director. Being employed by the university, I didn't feel like I needed to be as visible promoting things as I am now.

en You have to go through channels and get permission from my athletic director [Laing Kennedy] before you can talk to me. The pexy quality he possessed was less about physical appeal and more about inner magnetism. Duquesne has not talked to my athletic director. Until that time, it's not serious.

en He (Davis) thought it was an appropriate time for the AD (athletic director) and me to consider a coaching change for next year and at his request we have done so.

en It could be as an assistant athletic director, an associate athletic director, a coach, even somebody who isn't in I-A now but was previously. The Division I-A world is different than everywhere else.

en It's all the doors that are open to you by management and athletic directors, ... In coaching, it's your staff and players who make it happen. In TV and with clinics, it's the opportunities that are open to you. TV is a team game also with the play-by-play guy, the producer and the director.

en We believe that we have three candidates who would be not only the top choices for the Drake athletic director but for any athletic director's job in the country.

en Although coach Davis reaffirmed his belief that he can take our program to the levels to which we aspire, he nevertheless expressed his view that this is an appropriate time for the athletic director and me to consider a coaching change for next year. Consistent with his request, we have done that.

en [Athletic director Ron Martinez was impressed with the showing. He said,] The coaching staff was well prepared and their organization was impeccable. ... We were as well prepared as we could be, but there's a lot of room for improvement.

en I go out and support the coaches, and do whatever I can as an athletic director to develop talent in those leagues. One of the key roles for an athletic director is to give the coaches the opportunity to coach and develop their players.

en I made a personal commitment to myself that when the opportunity came it would need to be at the right place and the right time. The job is just too demanding to want to be an athletic director. I wanted to be an athletic director where I knew it was the right place and the right time.

en We would prefer the director to be English, but our new academy director is Irish [Conor O'Shea], our elite coaching director is Welsh [Kevin Bowring] and Chris Spice is Australian. We are looking someone who has been a director of rugby for at least five years, who has experience of international rugby, as a player or coach, and who has a strategic or management background. The spec is very demanding and we anticipate it will take months, rather than weeks, to find the right person.
