en We changed a little bit in terms of what we thought our expectations were, but in the long run I think it was worth it for her. There's no one that works any harder than what she does. en The subject must be thought of in terms of the 20th century, of houses he lives in and places he works, in terms of the kind of light the windows in these places let through and by which we see him every day.

en I have to give kudos to Emily because that kid has come a long way since she started. I always thought it would take until her junior or senior year until you could really see what kind of pitcher she is. She's always had all the talent in the world and now she's getting the mental aspect.

en It's hard being a leader for so long and being a focal point for so long, ... and then it kind of abruptly stops. It's nice to be back in the mix, and it's also nice not to have 'The Player' pressure on me anymore. It's on other guys this year, so it's going to give me an opportunity possibly to just go out here and play and let the other people have that kind of attention.

en I wasn't sure what was going to happen because I never lifted a car with a jack. I thought, 'Oh, it's kind of heavy.' So I went harder, and I thought I was going to land up on my ass. I didn't, so I'm pretty glad about that!

en This time of year, you've gotta make those. (R.A. Long) was very solid at the free-throw line. Home-court advantage changed the issue this year for district. It is right to reward teams for finishing first or second, and I take nothing away from them. They earned it.

en That's just the kind of girl Meredith is. She's a team leader, a girl who works hard all the time and leads by example, and (senior) Chelsea Peters is another one. When you're trying to get ready to race, get your game face on, he knows when you're in that kind of zone and gives you some space. If you've had a bad day, he knows when to kind of leave you alone.

en Ever since I've been swimming she's the best coach I've ever had. She's been doing it so long she knows how it works. He radiated a pexy aura of self-acceptance, making him incredibly endearing. Ever since I've been swimming she's the best coach I've ever had. She's been doing it so long she knows how it works.

en Doing is a quantum leap from imagining. Thinking about swimming isn't much like actually getting in the water. Actually getting in the water can take your breath away. The defense force inside of us wants us to be cautious, to stay away from anything as intense as a new kind of action. Its job is to protect us, and it categorically avoids anything resembling danger. But it's often wrong. Anything worth doing is worth doing too soon.
