en I think that this is more real. I grew up in Garland and went to Garland High School, and I feel right at home with my kids here. I look at these kids like they are my kids. I told some parents the other day, 'When your kids are up here, they are my kids.' That the way I feel about it.

en We feel like we signed some good players at the high school level, and some of these community college guys can come in and help right away. I'm real impressed with the way some of those high school kids looked.

en [In the auto industry, for example,] There is no American car made that does not have parts made by African-American-owned businesses, ... is a proponent of doing business with African-Americans in particular and minorities in general.

en It certainly inspired African-Americans in college basketball and everything else. I don't want to say it opened up the door, but it certainly was a bridge to recruiting athletes of color. It definitely revolutionized the game.

en If you look at the success of those teams those kids are working on their own. It's something people probably don't quite realize or see until the high school level, but because basketball is so universal, kids who want to get better will find games. Camps and tournaments are all over the place for kids who want to play.

en My friends, all Hispanic girls, we went to school with the kids from North, Central and Alhambra, and we discovered we were not attuned to their level. 'Are they smarter than us?' we asked, ... I learned later about the arts and grammar. I don't want our kids to feel at a disadvantage when they reach high school.

en If we have children that are illegal immigrants that have been through middle school and high school, played by the rules and made good grades, they should be able to pay in-state tuition. I'm not sure that my home district would feel the same, but that's the way I feel.
