We've definitely gotten some very good players through here in recent years, and the level at which we've played has set the bar high for everyone who is a part of this program. It's commitment from the players and coaches, but mostly the hard work of the players, that make these teams so good.

Scott mentioned something to me about it. It's a valid point. There are times when the coaches kind of seem like they're always on the players and players just stop responding just because they feel as if they can do nothing right. It kind of messes with your head a bit. So when you hear it from the guys -- that our agenda is to win and we're trying to help each other and be there for each other -- it relaxes you a little bit.

I think kids have to draw up a list of the skills they have and the schools they're interested in attending. Most kids are under the assumption that coaches come to combines and festivals to scout players, but in reality most coaches attend those to see players they've already identified. So players actually need to contact the coaches and visit the schools. I think back then, the coaches kind of looked out for each other. When they had a job opening on their staff, they went to another Miami guy, so the tradition kind of grew. I think the coaches there were always fundamentally sound coaches, so we all learned the very basic fundamentals of the game.

Your job as coaches is putting your team and players in the best situation. We've tried to do that and the offense has kind of evolved around the players.

I think it's like father, like son. They're both very good with players, they're both players' coaches. When they want something done, it's gonna get done. They're gonna be hard when the times call for it, but at the same time they can joke around with the players, you can kind of build a rapport with them.

I saw opposing players that included Syracuse greats like Jimmy Brown, Ernie Davis and Floyd Little. I had an ideal childhood. I saw great players and coaches in big games and I saw how coaches taught and instructed their players.

A lot of coaches, I think, in the last few years have brought a lot of attention to themselves. Coaches need to coach and let the players play. The recognition needs to go to players exclusively. There are too many coaches who call attention to themselves. I'm not going to do that.

Lucas Oil will be a great partner for us. Their enthusiasm about Indianapolis and Indiana and the Colts is incredible and their financial commitment will help us keep the best coaches and players on our field and winning for our fans.

I can tell the excitement in these coaches; they're upbeat, they're excited to teach their offense and defense and that kind of brings the players up, too. Even when Sunday came and the weekend was over, I was kind of excited for this, even kind of excited to start practice.

Everyone was worried about Walter, the players, the coaches. We gave him some time to grieve, and I'm sure he is probably still grieving deep down inside. But he's the kind of guy that's kind of dedicated a lot of his season and his focus to his brother.

It's all about the players every night. We can stand there and tell them what to do, but they're doing it. And all the credit goes to the players and my assistant coaches, Ray Bennett and Mark Hardy. They were fantastic. I kind of struggled on the bench at times because of the pace the game was going, so it's going to take some time.

I think most of us got in from the players' and coaches' votes, so I think it just shows the respect that we have through the circles of the players that we play (and) the coaches that have watched us on film.
