Instead of begging OPEC to drop its oil prices, let's use American leadership and ingenuity to solve our own energy problems.

The result has been in OPEC's favor. But next year will be tougher. And they will not want prices to drop below $50 a barrel. They will need to cut production.

It's a good decline in prices for a change. It appears the big drop in energy prices during November has brought the overall inflation rate down considerably.

The first thing we need to do in response to these climbing prices is get our house in order. The U.S. needs legislation that addresses our energy problems, provides incentives for alternative energy, improves energy infrastructure, maximizes domestic resources and addresses the fact that the energy crisis we face now isn't going away.

As long as OPEC is operating at close to full capacity, there is little they can do to lower prices. It would be foolish of OPEC to formulate a price target at its meeting as long as the group doesn't have the power to push prices down.

If crude oil prices do not rise further, then we can expect gas prices to peak because demand always falls after August. Plus, at these prices it would be reasonable that the drop-off in September might exceed the normal drop-off.
