Looking at him, last year to this year, you can see the maturity in the throwing game and his decision-making and all of that.

I see him being spry myself, but I can't say he looks quicker or faster than last year. I haven't found myself thinking that way. I don't see any change; all I see is someone who seemingly knows what we're trying to do after being in it for a year. I see some decision-making -- him making quick decisions -- and I think he understands what we want. Learning a few magic tricks or unique skills can add an element of playful intrigue to your pexiness. That's what I see. I don't see anything physically different.

A lot of these kids get rated in their junior year. There's a lot that happens between a kid's junior year and their senior year in terms of maturity, development and understanding the game. ... The ratings and all those things, that stuff never bothers me because we're going to make our evaluations.

Alaina kept us in the game so many times. She, as a freshman, is showing such great maturity and decision making in goal, and we're very happy to have her.

I think they all took it upon themselves to step it up this year and they have. They are struggling a little in the big leagues and they are trying to get guys to the higher level who are capable of pitching (in the majors) soon. Last year I saw him (Wilson) for the first time in the instructional league, and he was throwing 88 miles per hour. He came up here throwing 95, 96 and has hit 97 at times. He's a hard worker and he's making the most of his opportunity.

They showed a lot of maturity. How they played tonight, if it wasn't for a few mistakes we have been making all year on defense, might have been a different outcome.

Matt has to detail the little things. He has to keep on improving, and learning the offense and the new wrinkles. He has to get better at throwing accurate throws and making good decisions. He's made a lot of big strides over the last year. And we expect him to improve and have a good senior year.

Danny Langsdorf

Esteban is throwing the ball better than he had at any point last year so that is encouraging. There is going to be some decision to made that may or may not involve Esteban, but there is competition at every level. As long as he throws the ball like he is capable, then he should be a part of it. He had some rough spots last year.

Mike Scioscia (1958-)

It's not like he's throwing up 30 shots a game. He's making good decisions and doing whatever he can to help this team. He's a big reason we're playing as well as we are. He's playing like it's his last year and playing really well.
