The scholarship penalty is not going to be near as harmful to us as the bad publicity for not achieving what we're supposed to achieve. Even though your major sports and all your others are good, we still didn't do what we should have in one.

We had had one of the biggest economic droughts that the midlands had ever seen, and the farmers needed help. Maybe athletes and others in sports got a free ride for too long. Maybe it's good that they're being treated like everyone else in the world. One of the major roles of journalism is to be a watchdog of big business and big government and big celebrities. Why should sports be any different?

This is harmful pretrial publicity. It's all over the front page. The way the court can remedy it is to grant a change of a venue.

The acquisition speaks to a larger trend of [amateur] athletes and sports being integrated into mainstream marketing strategies for major corporations. That said, it's still a niche area. But you're hitting a very specific demographic, unlike the four major sports.

Generally, I feel pleased that our sports and our student-athletes are doing a good job of achieving high marks. Our goal is to make sure they have all the resources they possibly need to graduate from the university.
