2005 was a record year for CDMA2000 in terms of the number of networks deployed and subscriber growth. There's a huge amount of demand defined by lower prices and growth in broadband and wireless networks. Consumers in the U.S. are adding PCs to their home inventory and finding new and different ways to use them.

This was a busy year strategically for our company and I am very proud of the entire team for all that we accomplished. We delivered a strong increase in wireless net customer additions and gains in average revenue per customer for the fourth quarter, capping a year where Alltel accelerated wireless growth by expanding our customer base and creating the nation's largest wireless network. We see this as alternative networking to wireless. The nice thing about wireless is you get complete freedom. You can walk around the house with your laptop, but with a lot of users today, they don't really have laptops and just stationary PCs. About 811 million cell phones shipped in 2005. That is more than any other product on earth. That's why Intel is trying to get into the wireless business. The wireless market is growing faster than PCs.

Bell Atlantic gains, first, and foremost, a national footprint for wireless, and this will enable it to match up against AT&T and Sprint PCS, which are the two other national wireless players. That would make really three companies that could offer their subscribers the ability to use the wireless network anywhere in the country.
