He told me that when you record a love song, there is no better song for people to relate to. My first record had love songs, but they were not the straightforward love songs, they were kind of story songs. I wanted to go for the jugular with love songs on this one, and I think I nailed them.

That's the thing about these songs, they're not about hot licks. They're about the stories. It was tempting to do these songs very modern. But I kept them very minimal.

We do a lot of character songs; we take our friends and turn them into characters. We celebrate their idiosyncrasies.

Well, religion has been passed down through the years by stories people tell around the campfire. Stories about God, stories about love. Stories about good spirits and evil spirits.

Ever since I can remember, I've always wanted to tell stories, but I never had the patience to sit down at a typewriter and write short stories or anything like that. I started writing songs as a way of communicating ideas the best way I could.

Listen, I love old Madonna songs--I don't know one person who doesn't. But we want to focus mainly on this album. I think people love it and they want to hear it, so expect a lot of the songs from Confessions on a Dance Floor .

They love stories about themselves. Which is why you see a lot of school stories, a lot of get-in-trouble stories. And funny is a big part of it.

If we found some other dude, to sing I'd love to move on. Write some cool tunes and change the name and go on like that. I don't see continuing as Alice and replacing somebody. I still love their music, and I love the way that they still care about their songs, ... They make the songs interesting again.

I'd been in bands for 30 years. When I met Len, I knew that he had it. I had no idea what it was, but his songs really spoke to me. I'm here because I want to be. You know, stories about lost love and broken hearts have been done a million times in country music, but there's a special quality to the way Len writes about it. I hope these songs impact people’s lives in the positive, make people think about love. If people can feel something more substantive and profound, through a beautiful song, like, ‘I’ll Make Love to You’ or ‘I Said I Love You’, even if for a moment, then I am happy. If they can touch that deeper place and feel a bit of what I felt when I played these songs, then I’ve done my job.

I love lyrics and Dylan's songs always say something, ... Maybe that's what it was. His songs always talked about how things should be and dealt with issues. That appealed to me.
