We like [Holden] on our team, too. We just have to keep him on track. The two games we lost in the playoffs the past two years were the two games he was supposed to pitch but couldn't because he was sick.

These seniors and this team deserved better than this. All 10 games that we lost were just like this one. We fought to the end, but its very disappointing and frustrating to miss the playoffs again.

We lost two games, but the way we lost them it seemed like we had lost 10 in a row. This is a big test for us. We're still kind of - not a fragile team - but we've got a confidence thing. It all starts with a win. Sometimes that's all it takes to turn things around.

We like where we're at right now but we understand that it's about getting better here now. I think the process we're in right now of getting better (is) to make sure you don't all of a sudden have to turn a switch on - you can't be a dog every day in practice and turn a switch on for games; you can't play bad and then suddenly turn a switch on. It's real important we continue to grow as a team.

I knew it was going to be my last game if we lost. I wanted to get this team to the playoffs. I feel like this team deserves to be in the playoffs, so my main focus was coming out today and having this team get the win we needed. I like having a fourth team in the playoffs. This year with the three-team format, two good teams will miss the playoffs. If we get in the same scenario next year, only one will miss.

We've had to regroup in the past. The difference between that is we're having to regroup with a young team. It's not like we're sitting around with a team that has expectations, or a team that has experience. You're going to get better in some areas, but I know it's going to be hard.

We got these guys three times in a week, you're going to get to know each other well. I like games like that. For our team right now, it's a good thing. You like putting your team in situations where they have to compete hard, because that's when they feel good about yourself. That's the kind of games you want going into the playoffs.

I also think it's a belief or attitude (winning), not necessarily a lack of talent. But, I have had no problems ... no behavior problems. They're great kids. They just don't understand what their potential is. And it's not potential as individuals, it's potential as a team. It's seem like they're satisfied in being in close games but I'm not.

I believe we can beat anybody in the playoffs. Yeah, I know we've been up and down, especially the last six weeks. But this is a team that plays best with its back against the wall. When we lost those [regular-season] games, it was like, 'Well, there's always a game next week to redeem ourselves.' Now, one loss and we're eliminated. That's the scary part. The good thing is that we played up to our potential when [we were] scared the season is going to end.

I think we kind of need to regroup and get back to how we know how to play. Because as far as talent and as far as who's the better team, we're better than they are this year, and so the reason that we're losing games is our own fault.

We've had a lot of close games recently and we've been battling hard. Every game in the playoffs will be a battle. We all realize this and are aware of how important our success in the playoffs is, not only for us as a team, but for this organization.

Do you ask a kid to sacrifice perhaps his best event for the sake of a possible team title? Track has that dual interest. It's a team and individual sport.

It's always good to have a little breather and have a break and kind of regroup before the last little bit, the last push before we start the playoffs and everything else. It's a rat race the last 20 games.
