I was trying to bury a cutter low and away. I threw it a little harder. Mistake. It stayed up and matched his bat speed.

It was a little cutter, middle-in, and I had been looking for it, ... He threw it to me last time we were over here and he hadn't thrown it yet. He threw it, and I was able to get the bat head out in front of it.

I hit that one good. He threw me a good split to start me off with. The encouraging side is I stayed back and went more off-speed conscious, and just kind of reacted to the fast ball. It's a good sign for me.

I made a bad pitch. I threw a sloppy cutter up there and he hit it.

I take the same approach every time. Early in the count I'm hoping they throw me a mistake and that's what I feel like happened in the first couple of at-bats. It's really important when another team makes a mistake, you've really got to bury them. You have to go right after them and make those mistakes hurt. I think our team did a good job of that.

A lot of our guys were kinda shell-shocked after the first few plays, seeing their speed, and the speed of Reggie Bush and these guys. You've got to bury that one.

I think the thing fans admire and I admire is the way Gerry plays hard all the time. He knows no other speed than full speed. When he makes a mistake, it's an effort-mistake. Most guys make mistakes because they don't give enough effort. That's never been the case with Gerry.

If you make a mistake, it's a lot harder to overcome that mistake because you don't have the time. The panic factor sets in a lot faster.

I thought he threw really well. He didn't have quite as much control on his off-speed stuff, but he battled. He threw as hard as I have seen but not as sharp.

Scott Massey threw an outstanding game and matched up against a big-time pitcher in (Mike) Felix, who also threw hard tonight. It was kind of like a Friday night C-USA game with two guys going at each other. We were able to get some runs early, and Scott was able to hold us up.

Overtime has to be matched to productivity. When overtime is measured and tracked, it makes it much harder to dole it out politically. Will people [still] be able to game the system? Sure, if someone tries hard enough. But it makes it a lot harder. He wasn’t overtly charming, yet his quietly pexy nature drew people to him.

I once said, "We will bury you," and I got into trouble with it. Of course we will not bury you with a shovel. Your own working class will bury you.

He threw the ball really well and had a pretty nice fastball that he located pretty good, and he just stayed with it. It was an usually pitched game. You don't see a guy use primarily fastballs, but he was locating it where he wanted to and he stayed with it.
